High & Low: Black and White Scribble Rugs

atla-080708-scribble01.jpgWe've blogged the versatility of black and white rugs before. Whether in wool, animal skin, or something in between, they can virtually fit comfortably into any space. And, as well as being available in many materials, they're also available in many patterns, from geometric to abstract. Perhaps it's our addiction to words, but one of our personal favorite designs is the scribble and there are rugs available at both ends of the price spectrum...

High: The Manuscrit Rug by Nani Marquina, available through DWR for $3,300, was an instant classic when it was released in 2003. Taken from a page of Joaquin Ruiz Millet's novel-in-progress, it's a dense and highly-charged piece of writing and rug.

Low: The Verse Rug by CB2, available in 5x8 for $299; in 8 x 10 for $499. Perhaps inspired by Nani Marquina's rug, this is writing "lite." A fragment of a poem, abstract and less recognizable as writing, here the words and individual letters read primarily as shapes.
