We've admired George Nelson's Swag Leg desk (above, right) since Herman Miller re-introduced it two years ago — and now CB2 has unveiled a desk inspired by the design classic and available for just a little more than one-sixth the price of the George Nelson original...
The colorful and classic Nelson Swag Leg Desk from Herman Miller is $1,799 from Design Within Reach.

The Swoop Desk from CB2 is $329 (and is more practical with modern technology — the design features 3 cord cutouts!)
While we prefer the original, you have to hand it to CB2 for packaging a similarly-styled desk for such a low price point. Will this be the new, inexpensive desk that takes the place of the beloved West Elm Parsons Desk?

The top is nice however I think the legs are a bit unfortunate.
You know, I appreciate the fact that when CB2 offers an item "inspired by" a classic, they at least acknowledge the fact in the description.
That said, I haven't seen the CB2 desk in person, but I have seen/fondled/coveted the Nelson desk numerous times, and I am certain that the latter comes out on top regardless of the price. (Not that I can afford it, mind you.)
I have to agree with shlacking: The legs look like they're recycled from a cheap, student-grade drawing table
I'm ogling the Bond desk at West Elm myself.
Not a bad piece, but for that price I would think you could DYI something with less ugly legs.
Yep - Those legs on that CB2 desk really are tragic...
...where the Nelson Desk is all about the legs and the colorful inserts - This one is clearly all about the price.
Yeah, the legs on that remind me too much of furniture you'd see for sale at Aaron Bros. O_o
I think the Nelson desk is my most coveted item. I might even have to go check out the CB2 desk, although I agree those legs are pretty bad.
I like the CB2 desk more simply because it's 10 inches wider and there's more room for my legs.
the nelson looks like a whiteboard on its back
i think i might have thrown one out without knowing
modtramp hit the nail on the head with the budget drafting table legs. I was going to reference that but was afraid no one could picture what I was saying.
I really can't imagine why they didn't opt for another option. Two saw horse-like trestles would probably look a lot better. Its such a shame because the top is really nice looking.
The cb2 version would make for a great s'mores table next to my fireplace. This way I can store my marshmellows and graham crackers in one compartment and the chocolate in the other one.
When not used for making s'mores, I can use it as a work station.
Personally, while I like the Herman Miller desk I think that it doesn't quite have enough technical features to be compatible with my lifestyle. I think that my One Less Desk is both more stylish and is better suited for those of us who want functionality with a sense of style.

The Nelson desk is kickass. I wasn't sure I would like it but it is absolutely perfect--elegant, compact, sturdy, and fun. And everything wipes right off the laminate.
