Are you ready for the sci-fi transportation of the future? Evacuated Tube Transport may just be the answer. Running on magnetic levitation tracks, tubes containing up to 6 passengers could travel at mach 1 speeds, delivering cargo from New York to Hollywood in 45 minutes or from New York to Bejing in 2 hours.

There is already a maglev train in Shanghai!

Bollocks. I already get motion sick in a regular train, never mind a high speed super man one.
Mind you, that would make traveling so much less tiring.
sweet!
It would travel a lot faster than mach 1. The idea is to evacuate all the air from inside the tube, so the train could travel several times the speed of sound in a near vacuum (no friction).
Am I the only person who wonders what happens if, or rather when, a train breaks down when it's locked inside a sealed vaccum tube?
I'm skeptical that traveling that fast would have no effect on the human body. It makes me feel kind of sick just thinking about it.
Kristinaks ~ It would depend on the rate of acceleration at the departure and arrival gates. There's no reason traveling fast should affect the human body, we've been traveling at supersonic speeds for years. Give us a reasonable acceleration, and it'll be fine.
The part I'm skeptical about is creating a 3000 mile long air tight tube...
