lol Low versions are so much more attractive, IDK... it's weird. lol
What great comparisons! The low versions are definitely better.
I've had really good luck with picking an MCM pattern and then collecting pieces over the years, plus adding in some complimentary pieces. For me, it's been Ben Seibel's Harvest Time for Iroquois:

Other pieces that work with that line have come from other vintage and contemporary sources, but they all work well together.
I like some of the high & some of the low. I don't like those West Elm candle holders at all, but I don't like the expensive ones either.
I'm lucky that my MIL gave me a great set of china - antique & simple. Bone with a gold band. They look great with Chilewich placements on our Corbu dining table!
i go for low... we used to have the old version of the ikea365 flatware collection -- a dead lift of jasper morrison's knifeforkspoon by allessi at 10X the price (they've since changed the design). we were feeling rich and upgraded to the allessi... bad move. the ikea was more durable -- our allessis are *rusting*! we've just re-bought the newer 365 to replace them... at least if these rust, they were $25, not $250....
this is great! do more high vs. low. the low stainless water pitcher is fun.
The rusting might be your dish detergent. Citrus/lemon corrodes stainless steel. I had the same problem with my flatware.
I love the sleek look of the Calvin Klein glasses; makes my glasses seem outdated. Great post!
Great to see that, in many cases, I'm liking the "low" better.
Do not buy Jonathan Adler's Brasilia plates. I bought a few from online and the quality was unbelievably low. The clay that they used must be same as that used in grade school classrooms. There were small prodtruding clay dots (probably because the clay is so rough) and also several black paint dots. The company must not be doing any quality control.
