This isn't a home, its the office of a building materials manufacturer. The renovation of the rich-in-original-detail space could serve us well, though, when looking for ways to introduce modern style into older homes and apartments while highlighting a special original detail...
Clearly the homage in this particular project is to the intricate tile floors. By keeping the rest of the space light and white, we immediately notice the beautiful old flooring. There are other original details, too, like the beams and columns. They're still appreciated here, but in all-white, they step back and allow the floors to really take center stage.

In theory, I like the idea of highlighting one original detail. In this case though, I feel like making the rest of the room white detracts from the tile floor (aka "original detail"). It makes it not "fit" in with the rest of the room. Instead of making the cool floors stand out in a positive harmonious way, they stand out in an akward way.
