The color pink comes with some strong associations. Often viewed as girly or over the top, it can be a difficult color to incorporate without embracing those ties. Whether you love it or hate it, when used with restraint, this color can be quite stunning and does not have to appear overly feminine.
Pink can bring warmth and cheer to a room. Painting an accent wall, or a piece of furniture, is a great way to embrace the color. Paired with lighter neutrals the affect is a softer statement, while darker combinations can make pink appear more dramatic. Pale pinks are more calming while deeper shades can really pack a punch.
Blankets, pillows and area rugs are another way to weave in the color without going overboard. If you're still weary of committing to pink, start with flowers. Something as natural as a live arrangement is less likely to appear too girly or gaudy.

White Enamel Flatwa...
I was just thinking about adding some pink to my living room the other day. Inspired by the pink balloons I had bought for my daughter's birthday. The thing is, I have orange accents already (with grey/taupe walls/rug - kind of like the first picture with the pink bedside table), so I'm not sure how pink will work with it - but the post has inspired me to make a good faith effort...
I've oddly been on a pink accent color kick for my home. It's certainly new and weird for me, but I'm really liking it.
Am I the only one who remembers the apartment tour with the salmon living room that set off a firestorm of rage from people who thought the designer-wife was emasculating her husband? I guess I should be glad those people aren't here.
c in westchester, I love orange and pink together! While I usually favor earth tones--lots of green--I often accent with orange and purple. Sometimes, orange and pink--especially in a textile--is a better hit, especially a darker orange and hotter pink. I mix them in the garden all the time too.
I'm not a huge fan of pink, but that pink bedside table is freakin' ADORABLE!
i have noticed myself accumulating a LOT of pink recently, and thinking about weaving that into decor. after all, i am a girl living on my own - there's nothing wrong with a feminine look here!
I like orange and pink together too.
It might have been nicer to have the Ode to Pink written by someone who wouldn't say "Pink is OK, but only in tiny doses, and only because it's Valentine's Day, and only if you acknowledge that it's girly and tacky."
I had a LOT of pink and almond, and not much else, in my last kitchen, and I loved it. My current kitchen is mostly yellow and white, with green accents, but I wanted to do something subtle yet surprising, so I painted the ceiling a very pale pink in semigloss paint. It doesn't jump out at you, but it makes the whole room more cheerful and rosy.
How can you resist pink?! It's one of those colors I just can't say no to! It just fabulous & beautiful when it's baroque style!
This really works, the balance of colour in the room is perfect and the pink against the dark shades just looks striking. I agree that accent furniture is a great way of injecting colour into a scheme. It adds style and warmth :O)
