A friend recently sent us the image above after seeing it online and noted they loved the idea of having his and her bathtubs, similar in fashion to dual sinks common in homes and hotel these days (certainly not our own, which is compact). The idea seems wholly decadent and excessive, as we think sharing the tub is half the fun of sharing a home!

If you have the space, why not? I'm not big on bathtubs myself (being a total convert to showers), but would think highly of couples that bathe at the same time.
i am seeing a certain drug commercial...
I prefer showers for actual body-cleaning, and baths for simply relaxing. So if I had the space for two tubs, I'd rather one giant tub-for-two for my honey and I to 'relax' in together :)
Gosh I love this site. That is cooler than cool. And the outside of the tubs are the color of the walls. LOVE IT!
No matter how many cool things I think I do in my decorating, AT just does it better.
And you know that towel rack is heated.
Yeah, his/hers bathtubs is not only excessive- it takes away a lot of the fun! This reminds me of married TV couples in the 50's who slept in separate twin beds.
mikroma: LOL! I thought the same thing. I'll never look at twin tubs the same way again.
How is it a waste of water? Most people don't share the bathtub ALL the time. Most of the time, we take a bath alone. The amount of water required for two people to take two baths is the same whether the water is put in the same tub or separate tubs.
"our" husband? i've got to say, i love these modern polyamorous arrangements! teehee!
I vote hot - as a Cialis commercial!
Count me in as another who would just rather have a giant tub! Not that I would get much use - my husband can't stand baths. Le Sigh.
I can see this having some use for a couple who both loved relaxing baths, but had very different ideas of ideal temperatures.
Seems silly. Get a tub large enough to share and enjoy the fringe benefits of that. :D A double shower seems like a better idea--and fringe benefits can come from that, too.
I don't see any waste of water, though--if two people used the same tub once each, for two different baths, the same amount of water would be used. But if I had that much space I'd put a nice couch or upholstered chair and ottoman in the bath, not another tub.
Not a waste of water...
....just a waste of space and opportunities for intimacy.
How is this a waste of water? Unless you take all your baths together (which most people do not), this way you can have time together without being crowded into a tub. Not something I would install because it takes up a lot of space, is unnecessary, etc. It's a bit overkill, but a nice luxury and maybe as a couple you'd be more likely to do bathtime together and can still actually bathe.
I think this is a cute idea. Not something I would ever ACTUALLY do but I would welcome it if I stumbled onto something like this in a spa. I personally don't find shared baths comfortable, but I do like the idea of still being able to relax in close proximity and share that relaxation time.
almost like sleeping in separate beds.
Since everyone beat me to the Cialis reference, can I just say the feet on those tubs are awful? They look like they're made of Play-Doh.
Looks like a Saddam Hussein bathroom.
how are two bath tubs excessive and a waste of water? , I don't understand how or why it's wasteful. Don't most couples draw a fresh bath for themselves? What's the difference if it's in a different tub? Is a another tub in another bathroom allowed? Or is the issue again showers vs. baths?
My husband and I were JUST talking about this last night, saying we should incorporate this into our basement remodel. Definitely a nice luxury to soak side by side and relax.
"Looks like a Saddam Hussein bathroom."
Clearly posted by someone who has never seen the insides of the Hussein mansions. Those folks were mad about marble and faux-rococo copies.
Mikroma, I thought the exact same thing! I've always thought that commercial was very weird. Forgetting the commercial, I'm just not crazy about 2 tubs.
Sooooooo Cialis.....
If I had enough space for 2 tubs, I would put in one big jacuzzi.
One of the wonderful things about taking a bath is having some quiet "you" time. This defeats that entire purpose.
I see it as more separate bath and quiet time, but it also means that he won't be bothered by too many "girlie" products neat his tub, and mine will always be clean. : )
If I had the money to do this, I'd find something better to do with the money.
