Most external hard drives don't really look that great. They're basically enclosures for hard drives and they serve that purpose. There are thousands of different enclosure designs. Hitachi just released their updated SimpleDrives, which look pretty different from anything else we've seen.
These new SimpleDrives look pretty interesting. For one thing, they are inverted. The hard drive itself is standing up, which makes it quite distinctive. There is also a funky blue light at the bottom. The design looks good enough that we wouldn't be ashamed of having this little puppy on our desks. It also helps that they come with a 2TB internal hard drive, meaning that it can store a lot of data.
The 2TB 7200RPM version will cost you $250. Who needs a homeserver? External hard drives are becoming more and more common. They also make lugging your data around quite easy. Still, you got to be careful. These hard drives can break on their own at some point and its best to have some kind of other backup solution available. Moving your data partly into the cloud makes sense if you've got the space available. Also, doing periodic backups and then switching off the back up hard drive are things to do if you don't want to lose any data.

the only thing i can see in that pic are those hideous nails! it looks like they photoshopped weird fake nails on to a mans hand. very strange!
the drive itself is awesome though...
I came here just to comment on the nails/hands too. What, they used a male hand model and decided they would sell more with a female one so they photoshopped it into a hideous tranny hand? Freaky deaky!
