I have a confession to make: I have a item-specific hoarding problem. It's a heavy, unweildy space hog and I just can't get enough. What is it?
It's my collection of cast iron skillets.
I'm currently storing five sizes of the heavy stuff in my tiny NYC kitchen (where, I should note, I barely cook) and yes, I do fret over the seasoning of each and every one of these babies.
Why do I have so many when one (or maybe two) would do me just fine? Little House on the Prairie fantasy life? Preparing for the cooking-over-a-campfire electricity-free apocalypse? I honestly don't know what started my obsession, but as I was casually browsing at Sur La Table the other day and considering adding a sixth 20-lb griddle to my collection, it occurred to me that I may have a problem.
Bear in mind, most of my arm muscle tone was developed by moving these skillets around my kitchen, so there's that. But is my lack of bingo wings reason enough to keep such a cumbersome collection?
Help me feel better. Tell me, what do you inexplicably hoard at home?
