Sometimes the charm of an old toy you pick up at a garage sale or flea market is that it has that well-worn, well-loved look. But sometimes it's just a great toy that you wish you could clean and spiff up for your kids. You'll save yourself that step by just buying classic toys made by their original makers. Holgate Toys is one of the oldest toy companies in America and has been producing toys since 1789 (we're talking Founding Fathers era!). Not only do they continue to make high-quality, classic toys, they periodically re-issue some of their best sellers from the past as limited editions.

And here's some trivia for you: Normal Rockefeller's brother, Jarvis, was Holgate's chief toymaker in the 1920s and 30s.

The top row is a sampling of their limited edition toys (which are meant to be decorative and collectible and not intended for play by children). • ABC Giraffe ($75) • Aurora the Elephant ($75) • Space Blazer ($75) • Pebbles the Camel ($75) • Elsie's Dairy Truck ($75)

The second row is a sampling of Holgate toys currently in production (all meet the stringent CPSIA standards). • Mr. Roger's Neighborhood Trolley ($60) • Handeez ($9.95 each) • Tanker Truck ($25) • Ducking Duck ($40) • Sailor Boy Peg Boat ($16)
