The first one looks like a Christmas noose.

I agree, the image kind of freaks me out. Scary.
Are you guys kidding us with these? I've seen some nice diy holiday garlands floating around the internet, and they didn't look like something your kindergartener brings home from craft hour at school.
The only one on here that has any place on a mantel is the pinecone version.
The first one reminds me of the artisan knot store episode of Portlandia.
As someone who uses loads of dark humor to get through the holidays, the noose truly appeals to me, ha ha. These DIYs that use natural materials and touchable textures, without demanding a huge commitment of time ... there could be something here to inspire everyone (except critics.)
