Whether they’re wrapped around the tree, swaged across the mantle, looped through a banister, or draped from a doorway; the sparkle and pop they bring just makes my heart sing. Maybe it’s their easy-going nature – the way you can string them virtually anywhere, and add instant festivity and fun where previously there was none. Whatever it is, for me, it wouldn’t be Christmas without them!

..agree with the "joyful quality" bit, but appeal... nahh. dont appeals to me. (I can say why.. but then i might be accused of sounding rude.) even in the most festivies of all times i wont employ them. Honest words - dont mind!
I love the garland that's hanging on the wall behind the tree in the first photo. Is there a url for that one?
I love the colour in the first photo. Now I just have to snatch some of my niece's construction paper and make some of those lovely paper chain garlands.
Would love to find out where the tree in the first photo came from. Can't seem to find a source page within Rue magazine at all...then again, I grow frustrated with online magazines and give up very, very quickly so it may be in there somewhere...
I like the color combination, it is really happy but call me a Christmas purist. I prefer a fat, full tree and traditional holiday decorations.
Oh gosh, I love everything about the first picture, and I don't even celebrate christmas. Any idea where to find a wreath like that?
A few years ago I gathered all the beads I have and separated them into color groups (green, red, silver, gold, white) and made garlands. They are heavy, but gorgeous. This year I made a paper chain to use as an advent calendar. Use what you have laying around!
@tmoore, agreed on the tree in the first picture! Reminds me of a feather tree my mother used to use (although WAY bigger).
Hello! Thanks for your kind words about my styling for Technicolour Christmas in Rue Magazine.
Terry in Silver Spring - the garlands were from a store here in the UK that doesn't have an e-commerce site. However, if you're the crafty type, grab a sewing machine along with some mirrored card (in a range of colours) cut into circles and hey presto: the garland is ready!
Emcc - Thank you for your kind words. The multi-coloured bauble wreath in the first picture is from Paperchase. If you are in the UK you can buy online or if in the States, try their stores inside Borders.
Hope that helps!
I, too, love garland. There are so many ways to use them. This post shows that! I love all the fun paper garlands I see floating around these days. Thanks for featuring my dictionary garland!
I love the felt ball but $70 is a tad on the high end. . .for a garland.
I work at the Community Forklift Thrift Store for Home Improvement (just outside NE DC) and next weekend we're having a holiday party for the public.
I'm in charge of running "Santa's Workshop" during the party. I'm setting up a bunch of community crafting tables where folks can show up and make gifts & decor out of scraps. So far, I'm planning paper chains made from wallpaper, and pinecone & yarn garlands...I'm also thinking of cutting up plastic soda bottles into shapes and stringing them on a garland (though that may be a little too jagged and dangerous since we'll have kids and adults crafting side by side).
Anybody have other suggestions for me that would use building materials, hardware, or recyclables we might have laying around our store? Or, if you're local, you could just show up and join in the crafting :-)
I love the jingle bell garland. I have something similar, and I love the way it looks with white lights on the tree.
