Diapers for the above comment^^^^
Well, wipes are covered. Depends how old the kid is! Could be a pacifier for a baby, or a bottle if formula-feeding. For my toddler, it's something for him to keep busy with. Crayons or a book or...you get it.
This bag is so cute!

~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
Count me in, PLEASE.
My absolute essential is a pacifier!
~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
I think a diaper bag should definately have bottle holders and large clips for a pacifer and small toy. My girlfriend, who is having her first child would absolutely love this. She hates traditional looking bags and this one is so wow and beautiful. It's a boy! Thanks!
I'm not sure yet what my absolute essential will be--my son arrives next month (!!!!) and this is all so new! I read all the books and blogs, the lists of everything I SHOULD have, but all that would require a trunk, not a diaper bag. I'm just trusting that I'll learn soon enough. Thanks for all the great AT advice!
WIPES!!!!!!
WIPES.
Wipes has to be number one
Definitely wipes, they're needed for everything!
There are a couple of things that are "must haves" for me.
1.wipes/changing pad combo
2.hand sanitizer (for me)
3.a change of clothing is an absolute must
A t-shirt for me when the baby spits up on my shirt.
Bibs and cream for diaper rash.
changing pad
I really need a new bag!
wipes are needed all the time!
The essential item for my son is... the binky. At the moment, I wouldn't even bother packing a diaper bag to take him out anywhere if we didn't have a binky along!
Wet wipes are a necessity.
wipes!
Sanatizing wipes.
Wipes
Wipes for dirty hands.
Change of clothing for baby, I learned my lesson more then once :)
So beautiful, please pick me!
Um, wipes are the most important thing other than diapers for me. Have YOU ever tried wiping a small baby's bum with hand towels in a public restroom? I don't suggest it.
the powder
Small toys are essential in my diaper bag - they keep my toddler and infant entertained while waiting for the food to come while dining out.
Peanut butter crackers for me...this breastfeeding thing makes me so hungry!
Not a glamorous answer, but surely it is wipes.
Hand sanitizer!
For me it would be that nasty nose sucker that my son hates!
With his acid reflux his episodes can be so bad that it will come out his nose and mouth and the sucker is a life saver, literally! I have one in my diaper bag at all times!
Crayons! Seriously, with two wriggly toddlers nappy change time is like a wrestling match. Give them crayons and paper, and life suddenly becomes aeons easier. Also handy for when on public transport as we discovered last weekend in London!
wipes or bottles.
we would love this!
A pouch sling! Of course it's great because I can roll it up and take it out whenever I need to pop in for a quick trip to a store (now with the hip carry for my 9 month old), but it's also great as a nursing cover (slung over like a sash) and even a changing pag in a pinch. It makes a handy burp cloth and has even been used as a blanket when I found myself with a sleepy son in an overly air-conditioned room in the summer. It's the most versatile thing in my bag! I wouldn't leave home without one!
Wipes, definitely!
This is beautiful! Wow!
I seem to always be grabbing the anti-bacterial wipes
Crayons to occupy the 2 year old, a burp cloth for the newborn and breast pads for leaky mama. Really, the crayons are the necessity if I had to pick just one!
Lots and lots of baby wipes.
Change of clothes, but I'd also add wipes, snacks if baby is a bit older, and some toys :) Change of clothes is a must though!
Clothing!
A bottle of Jack...whoops - just kidding! I'd have to go with wipes...I use them for everything.
Wipes for me, but definitely a snack for the little guy.

I have to agree with a change of clothes.. for everyone.
I would have to say my point and shoot camera for sure because you have to catch life's little moments
Wipes! Everyone can use them.
1) aquaphor - as a diaper cream, to put on cuts, dry skin (especially in the winter weather), around the mouth area if drooling and developing a rash, and smoothing hair down for an impromptu photo op. It's really the all in one.
2) Wipes.

Wipes for cleaning up dirty hands, mouths, surfaces, etc.
Wipes, wipes, and more wipes!!
They are a godsend.

Definitely a burp rag. In a pinch, you can wet it with warm water and use it as a wipe (yes, I've had to do this). Second is a small, thin, flannel receiving blanket to use as a cover for nursing.
wipes -- how else am i going to clean them :p
This looks awesome!
When my daughter was a newborn, I always made sure I had burp clothes with me. Seems like I never had enough!

A granola bar for when my daughter screams, "I want a snack!"
Wipes and Kleenex...if I don't have either of those on hand my daughter will ultimately poop her pants and have the runniest nose you can imagine as soon as we get where we are going!
Wipes and a change of clothes
Toys! especially our mini magnadoodle
I definitely agree with wipes but for me it has to be a baby lotion with a SPF. I want to make sure that my daughter does not get too much sun even when it looks cloudy outside.
wow there are few essential items but the most important for me are baby wipes, bottles, and a change of clothes for all those spit up messes

baby wipes indeed! they are great to clean bottoms, hands, face, toilet seats etc. they are a must in the ol' diaper bag... speaking of, i really could use a new diaper bag myself. thank you for the contest!
Baby Wipes..a MUST have!!
my little rubber duckie dirty diaper bags and holder!
wipes and plastic grocery bags that are saved for better disposal.
small first aid kit, for scrap and boo-boos.
A bib, I have had too many incidents and forget to put it in there and it was not a good experience.
Wipes and then hand sanitizers!
For my son - it's his EPI-PEN, but otherwise I'd go with a small snack in case we are stuck somewhere. A few puffs or cheerios are essential to an unexpected wait.
A wee fairy for our wee one.
The bink for sure
Oh, I have to go with 2 changes of clothes: becuase what else do you do when baby has a blowout and there is poo everywhere? Oh, and it's 15 out, so going in just a diaper isn't an option. oh, and baby already threw up all over change of outfit #1.
Baby wipes for sure. No Mom can live without them.
Oh, it's got to be the wipes. They're good for a million and one things.
