With a limited supply of vacation days and the reality of work commitments sometimes it can be tempting to use the holidays as a free pass to really get away for a bit of a vacation. A week off for Thanksgiving? Yes please.
For those who choose not to celebrate more traditionally, for whatever reason, it seems like an ideal time to get away, despite the flood of holiday travelers. This year we are splitting holidays between our two families and the idea of playing a little hooky came up. We decided to compromise and are spending the actual holidays with our families but using the extended vacation around them to squeeze in a little R&R. We're planning on sneaking off to Palm Springs before visiting my LA area family on Thanksgiving day and possibly heading off to New York before visiting his folks in Pennsylvania for Christmas.
Have you ever played Holiday Hooky? How did it go? Did you skip the festivities altogether in exchange for some time away or find a way to celebrate on an alternate day? Let us know in the comments below.
