You can't start fresh if you still have last year's holiday decorations sitting around. Even if you've already stuffed your decorations in the moldy old boxes you've been using since the Reagan era, this is a great time to invest in some nice new containers for storing your holiday supplies. Get organized now and you'll be sitting pretty when the end of 2013 rolls around.

I took down my Christmas tree yesterday and although all the ornaments are already stashed in their container they are still in my dining room. I will take them to the basement tonight.
I am sure many of these will work nicely but I find it unnecessary to spend so much money on storage containers. No. 5 strikes is as terribly pricey and not that good - if you give it a good kick, I am sure some ornaments will shatter.
No. 3 - the reel is nice, but if you cut out a similar shape from a heavy-duty cardboard, you will save yourself $12 (times the number of strings you need to store).
I store my Xmas ornaments in an old plastic bin that came long ago from Purina ProPlan. I don't find it practical as a kibble container, but it is excellent for Xmas ornaments.
We have two large plastic tubs, and aside from the tree, if it doesn't fit in there, it doesn't stay. It forces us to not accumulate a lot of stuff we'll never use.
I bought #7 at Khols several years ago and it is a great storage option. I actually ended up getting 2 since I needed room and they are stackable which is nice since they fit in a small closet perfectly.
What I enjoyed about the storage was the removable dividers. I took out the bottom compartment dividers so I could place my garland in that space. And removed part of another section to lay down my tree topper. So far no oddments have broken even though 2 moves which I was happy with. :)
I also have another storage box similar to #8 which holds all my wrapping paper and giftboxes which stands up. Easy to get to all year around.
My original containers from the Reagan administration aren't moldy!
I agree with CanadianMango... Martha Stewart has some good ideas and tips on holiday decoration storage.
I have # 7 that I got at Target or Joanne's (there are always coupons) and it's great. It's a good way to limit the # of ornaments, if they don't fit in there, there are too many for one tree. The removable dividers are useful too, I use one level for long and odd shaped ornaments. Just a word of caution, the little tabs that secure the layers do wear out and are not terribly stable when the whole thing is full so I never carry it by the handle and always support from the bottom!
I received a tin of popcorn and I decided to use that, rather than cardboard boxes, to store my ornaments. I just filled the sides and bottom with bubble wrap and wrapped each fragile ornament with tissue paper.
Thanks so much to sharing this kind of topic a "Holiday Decor Storage Options", I was amaze with this thanks...
