Home Audio Evolved

Unless you are a big time audiophile, gone are the days of the big wooden speakers and different audio components. The AM/FM radio tuner, amplifier, tape deck player/recorder, equalizer, turntables and various other components that once made up the hi-fidelity audio experience. The stereo systems of yesteryear were large and heavy, needing a dedicated space/furniture to house them, with portability out of the question. And, for better and worse, they were analog.

In a world where it's assumed that bigger is better, we can see quite the opposite on the home audio segment. As noted in our previous post, the growing trend in home audio is the same trajectory as cell phones, with each iteration becoming smaller and sleeker.

Now, you have several options, between dedicated bookshelf size, with included hard drive for CD-less playlists, to computer systems that let you play and carry using a set of powered speakers and pumping the music via a laptop or even an iPod or other mp3 player.

For those in the UK,  Meridian Audio offers a new sleek profile music system which fits perfectly into your home. The Meridian M80 is a beautiful high-performance compact entertainment system with a luxury hand-tooled leather finish, and combines incredible audio quality with supreme versatility. The M80 features many technologies distilled from Meridian's flagship products, helping it extract detail and reveal information previously buried in the recording. You'll be amazed something so small actually allows you to hear more of your music. With CD/DVD player, AM/FM/DAB radio and alarm functions, and an included i80 Dock for iPod®, it's equally at home as a subtle source of music in the bedroom as it is filling a large room with incredibly detailed, powerful sound.

The complete multi-room system: 3Raumfeld contains everything that you require to enjoy your music in three rooms.
You can put together and arrange your multi-room audio system entirely according to your needs and wishes. Music stored on the Raumfeld Base can be accessed immediately at any time. Listen to Podcasts from around the world, play music wirelessly throughout your home from your networked computer or Network Attatched Storage (NAS), play your iTunes music collection from your computer or migrate it onto the Raumfeld Base and even use your existing iTunes playlists

The Raumfeld Controller is simply fun to use. Here are some of the reasons why:
User friendly software, large capacitive touch screen, aluminum swivel volume control, immediate reactivation from permanent stand-by mode through the movement sensor

For the DIY crew, we've notice these awesome looking speakers from Etsy that we posted before.

Audio speakers from ikyaudio, handmade from PVC pipes, each houses a 3 inch magnesium/aluminum alloy full range driver. Frequency response is 80-20,000. 3 way binding posts on back. Magnetic shielding for safe placement near video sources. The bass port is on the end of the 1-1/2 pipe/stand. Nice sound and a very good sound stage, lots of low end bass for a small speaker. Hand painted with a high gloss lacquer.
