This week I'm making many of my final preparations for Thanksgiving. I'm finalizing the menu, shining all the silver, and choosing a seating arrangement. There is still one detail that has me flummoxed, however. Where will I set up the bar? I turned to some recent house tours to help me find inspiration on setting up a home bar.
- I love the colorful painting behind Christina's makeshift bar. The whimsical monkey painting is practically beckoning me to break open one of those bottles of Veuve Clicquot!
- A home bar doesn't need to be an elaborate set-up. I like the simplicity of a decanter with a few glasses sitting beside it, as seen in John's New York apartment.
- Steven's weathered bar cart looks completely at home in his apartment. Stocked with bottles on the bottom shelf and glassware on the top, it's a practical bar that is also very handsome.
- A tasteful little tray holding a couple of bottles and beautiful glassware is an inspiration I took away from Jan's loft.
- I love the look of a bar cart and this shiny little number from Caitlin's apartment is oh so lovely!
- I tend to like things behind closed doors so a bar cabinet – like the one seen in Ashley and Andy's home – would probably be more appropriate for my home.
- I love the sports equipment mounted above the Tyner's bar. Who says drinking's not a sport?

Shaw's Original Fir...
Why would I want to drink Roundup!! That is dangerous!
(J/K...the title doesn't really work here for this post...)
Its a lot fun looking through the variety of home bar ideas. The woodworking on the Tyner's liquor cabinet and the Steven's rustic bar cart really stand out.
My home bar is a round three level glass cart that is only 15 inches across. I love it because my place is small and the cart fits perfectly in a tiny corner between the kitchen and dining area.
I don't drink cocktails that often but I do regularly enjoy a glass of wine. Since I keep my wine glasses right in the kitchen, the bar cart allows for some extra storage space and the contents are visible for when guests come over and want a drink.
I have a vintage chrome bar cart for sale on craigslist if anyone is interested: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/fuo/2057274790.html
Ooh! This thread is devoid of the person who usually chimes in with a nasty comment about people who keep bars in their homes.
Cheers to that!!
:)
@kitschykitten, Your comment was surprising, so I searched using the words home and bar. None of the results I read had "a nasty comment about people who keep bars in their homes." Curious.
P.S. Maybe you thought a sincere commenter was being sarcastic--certainly sarcasm can get nasty. Misunderstandings are inevitable when you can't see a commenter's face or hear her voice, and because AT commenters are from many different places. Please report nasty comments for review and possible removal and banning.
There was a roundup a while back where someone started making comments about why people "need" alcohol in their homes and how bad it is to feel like you should have an area dedicated to booze and blablabla.
Anyway...hooray for onward and upward! :)
