By now you might have seen the video of a dad and his two kids covering Depeche Mode's "Everything Counts" (if not, it's below the jump). The video went viral over the weekend, and rightly so; it's a gorgeous cover featuring a cool dad and his two adorable kids playing weird instruments including a coke bottle and a cheese grater. Borrow a page from this family.
Colombian video artist Dicken Schrader and his kids Milah and Korben perform in front of a four camera set-up. Dad handles lead vocals and kazoo while playing percussion with his feet on an empty soda bottle and a tambourine, and the kids provide backing vocals with Milah on plastic recorder, chimes and toy bell and Korben on keys, shaker and grater.
There are so many things to love in this video. It's a great cover, a beautiful document of a family having fun and making music together, and a smart lesson in ingenuity and resourcefulness. The Schraders raided the toy box, recycling bin and kitchen for most of their instruments, and hopefully this video (along with their versions of "Strangelove" and "Shake The Disease") will embolden families everywhere to do the same.
