"Homey" isn't always the first thing that comes to mind when we hear the words "shipping container," but we think Numen Development, based in Houston, Texas (one of the world's busiest ports), has containers figured out. Take a look at these plans.
Ranging from $100 to $150 a square foot, these container homes (standard plans are from 360-square-foot studios to homes upwards of 2,000 square feet) utilize natural light and, often, highly sustainable interior finishes.
Numen Development says that using containers as a basis for your home can help cut building costs as well as time. They offer MODs (modified container modules) based on several plans, as well as custom container builds.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I'll confess that I was daydreaming of a tiny dwelling like this as a retreat on some isolated bit of land somewhere while I was logging miles during my run this morning. So cool!
I live down the street from the Shipping Container House on Cordell, and it's as amazing in person! My friend Katie works for Numen, and they're a fantastic little company, too.
How did I miss this when you guys posted it? We are in the process of designing and building a container home with Numen in Houston. I'm posting our progress over on my blog: http://rocknrollproblems.wordpress.com/
It's going to be beautiful!
