"Before, there was one shelf with a collapsing, sagging hangbar across the top, with a big pile of shoes at the bottom and tons of wasted space.
I wanted to get everything off the floor and have two bars to hang different-length garments. It's all Closetmaid Shelftrack wire shelving from Lowes, and the cloth drawers are from Ikea. The whole thing cost me around $150.
Oh, and what you can't see is that there is still about 12" of hanging space on the right behind the door (which is where some hoodies, jackets and blazers are hanging, and on both sides inside the closet there are about 2 feet of space. I'm storing suitcases and things like that in there. Hidden storage is so great.
Tips: Definitely make a plan before you go buy stuff. I measured probably twenty times and did a couple sketches of what I wanted. This helped a lot when I went to the hardware store. I could show the guy exactly what I wanted and give him exact measurements to cut the shelving for me.
Also, make sure you doublecheck to see that you have ALL the parts you need before leaving the store, it's easy to forget brackets or hardware if all you're thinking about is shelves and bars or whatever.
By the way, more of my DIY/house projects are here."
