Hot Heaters: Slick Space Heaters

Winter is definitely here, as those in the Pacific Northwest can attest. We certainly know it the second we get out of the shower. We're putting a new space heater in our bathroom, workshop and office. Here are some of the slickest we've seen.

1. Crane EE-6490 Space Heater ($39.99)
One of the most affordable space heaters we've seen, it reminds us of an old school radio but with a modern twist, which means it fits perfectly in our workshop. It's a standard ceramic heater, but packs a punch for one so small. It's also got a dust filter on the back for easy cleaning and reduced burnt-dust smell. If you're interested in heater a larger space (or want a remote) the EE-6353 might be more your speed.

2. ±0 Mini Ceramic Heater ($50-100)
The Mini Ceramic Heater is only 10 cm wide (3.9") and as minimal as you would expect from the designer of Muji products. A single button on the top controls the device, meaning you can't exactly specify a temperature, but given the size of the device that doesn't matter too much. We like the one-hour automatic kill switch for safety purposes. Hopefully this will be occupying the counter of our sink or tub very soon.

3. Dyson Hot ($399.99)
What list of elegant heaters would be complete with Dyson's new offering? Despite a price that makes our heart stutter, if we can get together the scratch we'd definitely display this baby MOMA-style. As elegant inside as it is outside, the Hot uses air multiplier technology (also by dyson) and oscillation to warm the entire room. If you've got to go without central heat the Hot should definitely be on your short list.

4. Vintage Viking Heater ($32.00)
Another low cost option we're considering for the shop or garage, a vintage Viking space heater has all the stylings of a wire work light, but it's that rugged look that draws us in. The copper bowl also adds character. We'd definitely make sure to clean up whichever one we buy before plugging it in, and keep it away from the flammable materials (safety standards weren't exactly the same then as now). Prices vary but Etsy frequently carries various vintage heaters.

5. DeLonghi HR715 Retro Convection Heater ($54.99)
Another modernized, retro version of the space heater (can you sense the aesthetic we're going for) the DeLonghi pumps out the heat. The vintage elements extend to the handle and cloth covered cable. It does work differently than a fan based heater, taking more time to heat the air and not giving say, a person in an office chair a lot of heat, but lasting longer.
