What's up with all the glow in the dark furniture nowadays?
When it starts showing up in HGTV or "Big Brother", you'll know it's passe...
I'm already over it.
Oh come on, people! I wouldn't put this in someone's house, but these would be great for events.
KTG I don't get the spaghetti ref...? anyhoo I love Martha Sturdy- she's a fellow Vancouverite and unfortunately the subtle texture and transparency is lost in the photo- her resin pieces are like ice - they really lend themselves to being lit from within ( she does tables, vases, benches etc that can all also be lit from within- very ethereal!!
OK- the thing is- my buddy Critz Campbell's been doing illuminated Fiberglass/Resin chairs for about 7 years- having shown em at ICFF before Apartment Therapy was blogging... http://www.b9furniture.com/NewFiles/Current.html
......and the ideas been popular for Photo Shoots ,TV shows and Lounges/Clubs- but in your HOME?.......
I'm jus' sayin'......
Back in the late 90's LA Design (Living Arts Design) in Toronto used to sell her work, and she was doing resin pieces as well as copper tables back then. Beautiful but expensive.
I think illuminated resin looks great, but I would dislike having a power cord from chair to wall.
I agree with KTG. If the cushion was integrated in the overall design better it would work... better. It's sudden opacity and more rounded shape next to the wonderful translucency and very squared shape of the actual chair are a bit off-putting. Overall it's ok, but that one detail bugs me.
oh yeah they look EXACTLY the same...lol
I guess if you wanted translucent cushions you'd have to go with clear vinyl blow up ones, just so the light comes through....I think I'd stick with the comfortable fabric ones...
the ' nightclub' look is actually quite pop in Europe now ( has been for awhile) very cool slick white spaces bathed in glowing , usually colored ,light( ie hot pink), touches of baroque in b/w...yummy, I could live with that!!
Fun in a club, lame in someones home.
I like the idea of a soft cushion vs. resin "cushion" I am going to fill my place with light up furniture. It will be awesome with the lights off! (JK)
