Someone sent me the link to this rug, and to be honest, I'm still trying to process it. On one hand, I do like the fact that someone has taken a very traditional rug in a non-traditional direction. And I'm certainly not above a little kitsch. What do you think? Yay or nay?
This one-of-a-kind rug was made by artist Lisa Lefebvre, who started off with a vintage wool Persian rug and then created the bear-like face using wood, glass eyes, and a painted plastic mouthpiece. Can you see this unique piece on your floor or wall?

Z2 iPod Dock and Wi...
NOT.
I can.
Ooooh. Not.
Although I do like the concept of juxtaposition. Just not in this application.
It would work in a similarly kitch setting. I could see it in a loft apartment with aged brick walls and odd ephemera and rusty vintage items here and there. But not - definitely not - in any traditional home.
What saves it to me is that it's a one-of-a-kind artist's creation. In that light I find it a little cheeky and off the cuff. I'd feel very differently if it was being sold by, say... Pottery Barn. If a major company was trying to do a whole run of them it would scream: "we want to be interesting and artsy, please like our stuff, indie kid!"
(not to say anything against Pottery Barn. They're just my example of a go-to box store for furniture)
Er.... Not.
No, not ever. No, no, no.
Nay, nay, nay!!!
NAYYYYYYYYYYYY!
I'm........ not feelin' it.
I think this is freakin hilarious.

Ugh. No thanks.
I love taxidermy.
I love persian rugs.
but I do not like this...
http://mylittleapartment.blogspot.com/
Icky icky! Ok it made me laugh, but also very uncomfortable. Thus, "NAY".
UGH.
Loved it the first time I saw it, and I still do!
I am totally creepified by this. In other words, it's so creepy that I had to make up my own word to describe how I feel about it.
I'm love to have this in our living room or sitting room or bed room or anywhere. I love it!
Ahhh... no
hell yay
Hell no.
Nay! Way to ruin a beautiful rug...
I can see those Brian Mock sculptures too.
Yay!
Oh, what the hell.... yay.
Yawn.
soooooo want one!!
NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAYNAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAYNAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAYNAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY NAY!!!!!!!
Ooo, creepy! It looks like something that would appear in a child's nightmare, not in my home.
I see the humor, kinda.
but no.
Hahaha, nooooo.
I think this is great. Not for me, necessarily, but great.
Love it, humour and satire.
Ugh!
This cracks me up, and I'd totally put it in my study. I'm pretty traditional, but with a strong sense of humor, so anything whimsical or funny like this is totally me. Plus, no bears died in the creation of this rug (I'm assuming). Bonus.
nawt
LOVE! I think it's hilarious.
Funny stuff! Definitely belongs in a home with a wicked sense of humor.
This is great! It needs a fireplace and a brandy.
HILARIOUS!
I'd have to say not, but still, it's kind of awesome.l
Jed Clampett would love it. It's so Beverly Hillbillies.
It's fun! I think my cats would attack the head, and the dog would probably gnaw on it.
I agree w Marianne. Bc it's one of a kind, that makes it worth it. I'd put it in my study and laugh my head off Every day. But the second it became mass market, nope.
Oh Lord
if it's free, I'll take it, then convert it. Imagine it without animal references, it would do fine in a bedroom...
no
weird. not in a good way.
Nay! I think if I were a child I would develop a phobia of Persian rugs that might bite...
It's rather twee. I think it would get old really fast.
I agree, it would get old fast. But as a one-off art object, MEANT to be kitsch, and in the right place, it does crack me up! (Not my home, though)
Um, yay. Yeay!
I too dig it as a one-off art item, not so much for actual ownership. :)
NOT
Doesn't work for me. But, then, I have one of these at the foot of my bed (Tibetan) http://www.dharma.net/monstore/product_info.php?cPath=83_39_118&products_id=1388&osCsid=a82n59acgl0i2b31i26fe5pha0
Unbelievable. In a most negative way.
I kinda like it...but I'm an art major, so maybe i'm just looking at it in my weird way. I think it could work in someone's house, though definitely not my own.
EW.
Oh geez, this is FUNNY.
...
...
Yep, still giggling.
I've never been into bear rugs or traditional Persian rugs either. I like this piece except that from its aesthetic I would expect to see it in an entry way, only the bear head is obnoxious and people would trip over it all day long.
The shape suggests that it would go in front of a fireplace, but then we get back to the fact that it wouldn't look quite right.
If I had a big enough house (it would have to be pretty big) I would hang it on the wall somewhere kinda hidden.
Hot, but not for me.
nay way!
My knee jerk reaction was, "Oh, big fat not." However, I could possibly see it working in the right room for someone with a quirky, whimsical sensibility.
Adore it. A real bearskin rug, on the other hand, would probably creep me out.
hysterical! hilarious! yay!
Cracks. Me. Up.
And as far as shelf life goes, I think this will continue to be funny as long as taxidermy continues to be "in."
Yow! It looks like something from a Salvador Dali painting.
Poor Persian rug! Nay of course!
No! A thousand times No! Do this to a shag rug, a cheap machine-made "Persian" rug, but not a vintage, hand-knotted one! Someone made thousands of fiddly little Senneh knots, making sure to pull them and the warp and weft threads tight so they would last for decades, and the thought of taking scissors to all that work angers me.
lol. not for me, but it made me smile.
****ONE BIG NO****
A thousand times no. A THOUSAND TIMES NO.
that's awesome, love it as a piece of art.. not so much as a rug
Gawd no.
In the words of Bruno - its a nish-nish
It's creative, it's funny, but no.
There was a better example of this type of rug on AT several months ago. The shape of this isn't right, and the head is ridiculous. I'll have to comb the Goodwill stores this weekend to make my own. It would make a great gag housewarming gift.
I actually love this. I hate the stupid cow hides and fake zebra hides you see everywhere, but admit that the shape is an interesting contrast to the usual rectangle. Pairing that shape with a rug which happens to resemble my own red, black and tan living room rug would be perfect. However, I agree that chopping up an actual vintage Persian carpet is kinda sad -- wish I could send my own rug to the artist to have one made.

similar idea..
I love the idea, but the shape throws me off. Nay.
NO! (I have exhausted myself by the sheer force I used to express my refusal.)
