Hmm... I think it would depend how they were used. There's places I'd like it and places I wouldn't. It brings attention to something I'd normally want to hide, but there are some places where you can't help it.
I appreciate the idea of attempting to take something not so attractive and make it aesthetically pleasing, however, I think a random string of beads on the floor looks a bit odd or out of place. Like Christmas decorations left on the floor.
ditto to whytephoenix
Wood beads? On an electrical cord? You do realize that if there's ever a problem with the cord, it won't be visible (because it's covered), and if/when it shorts out, there's plenty of fuel (wood) for a house fire, right?
Looks great, but is it dangerous?
this would only make cords more enticing for my 18mth boy to play with! dangerous!
I happen to think they are very cool looking....but so would any small child or animal who might be too tempted to play with them. For adults though, they are lovely and a really nice change.
The best place for something like this, would be on the cord of a swag lamp that has to be plugged into the wall. But the flammability issue is a bit worrying.
One of my goals when dealing with electrical cords is hiding them, not drawing attention to them.
I agree that there are just some places that you CAN'T hide the cords. If I could run this from the power-strip under my desk to my out lit instead of regular extension cord I think it could look pretty cool. But not for everyday use no.
Maybe plastic beads instead? Or would that be just as dangerous?
I think this would be way cool for the "drag the record player outside" days! Very cool.
I love this! I'd like to hear more about the safety issues, though.
But there are places where the cords are just hideous and awful, and this would be so much cuter!
i like the concept, but they kinda look like... well, something i prolly shouldn't say on a blog like this, but it's quite naughty.
You just made my day jessbink.
I think it is a really cool idea, but it just makes me think of all the little kids that come to visit and how exciting that would look to play with. And when we have our own kids, I wouldn't want to encourage touching cords. Interesting idea though…
I also wonder about the safety of it. Think it might look good if done on a pendant light, maybe.
Not. Even if safety's not an issue, practicality is. Beads twist and tangle. Has anyone ever put on a long strand of beads only to have it knot as the strand twists and the beads catch on each other. And given the number of cords that are usually in close proximity--yikes. A nightmare.
I see no safety issue, it's just unsightly and wholly superfluous.
jessbink, I agree. I wouldn't be able to own them. I do like the idea though, and because they are such large beads I don't think they'd get tangled. And they'd probably protect the cord from damage as well.
Cool!
