This Bird Side Table is produced by Alex Hellum, a furniture and product design company based in the U.K. The table retails for £195. So you think the table is another way to bring the outdoors in? Or is it a too literal for you? Or more to the point, hot or not?

Adorable! Though perhaps not very practical.
I adore the piece, but not the price :o). I don't see where the ~$400.00 has gone. Materials? Paint? Engineering? A DIY project using an actual bird cage might be more colorful. Either way, I love the idea!
I think its a cute idea, and adds little bit of whimsey to the room, but there is no way I would EVER pay nearly two hundred pounds for such a thing. That's over three hundred dollars at the current rate of exchange! No way Jose.
SO cute!
I agree with the other commenters. LOVE the idea, love the table, but the price, yea gods! It's just a bit of wood, and appears to have very basic construction and finishing. The upside of it's simplicity is that a DIY version is well within reach.
$315 for a birdhouse on a stick?
And there's no place to put your water carafe but the floor beneath the thing?
Not.
So NOT HOT! the kitsch is dripping off of it and ruining the floor underneath.
This would be a lot hotter if it were about $25. And even then...not so much.
It's a little too precious for my liking.
bepsf,
Agreed! What is the point, if it won't actually hold even the bare minimum of bedside necessities?
I'm personally not a big fan of the bird trend, and this seems a bit cutesy even if one loves birds. Maybe for a kids room, though. But, as stated by others, the price is insanely high!
I like the idea of repurposing something...but maybe just not this instance.
SO CUTE.
and as my mom would say - "so cute! how much? pfft. 50 cents at garage sale. You pay $300? this is why you can't find husband."
i agree with ShellyIN... It might be cute in a bathroom to hold TP, but it definitely wouldn't work for adults who need books, a lamp, a remote, alarm clock, etc close at hand.
also, agree with everyone that this lends itself to my motto... don't BUY it, DIY it!
The first cat to come along would knock out the glass of water, and move right in.
And where does the alarm clock go? So useless, so overpriced, so tweet....
I like it but I agree with the other comments. For my purposes it would not be useful as a bedside table and the price is nuts. But I think the idea has merit if it could be made more useful.
I agree with everyone who agrees with me. It's cute, but not 195 pounds cute. DIY this bad boy yourself. It might end up (only) costing 25USD.
I agree with gerundgirl. A kitten would make that their home in seconds, which is actually a more interesting idea, than a bedside table.
Cute, but not very functional.
I like it :)
I love it. My nightstand only needs to hold my iPhone and my glasses. So it would work for me. My husband has the practical night stand with drawers for books, and a lamp and such. If it weren't so expensive, I'd buy it. :)
i am not a fan of cute … i think it is silly and yes, too expensive. (actually, it would count as clutter in my book :-P )
... for the birds!
Charming, but not very practical and definitely better as inspiration rather than an actual purchase.
impractical, sophmoric and costly ... barnum said it the best ... there's one born every minute
I feel like this birdhouse table has been featured on this site before, and design*sponge, and Decor8, and...
I'm a little over it.
I think it's a fun idea but agree that it's functionally limited and the price too high for just an accent piece.
But it's a cute DYI. I actually think a wall hanging version would be more practical especially if you didn't have room for normal sized night-stand. But then again where do you put a lamp?
Avian reject.

Actually a search for the designer Alex Hellum doesn't bring up anything on Apartment Therapy, Decor8 or Design Sponge. It's a little telling though that you feel like you've seen it before...
weird, expensive, unpractical and absolutely unnecesary.
Hm, bizarre. I know I've seen it at least twice before, and I only have a handful of design blogs in my feed reader...
I will say that I do secretly like the "bookmark" concept that the roof offers.
I swear I've also seen this on apartment therapy before...
If you guys find it, I'd love to know. It looked familiar to me too, but couldn't find it on the usual sites...
I should also say (and these were my thoughts when I saw it the first time) even though it's not sturdy (forget my cats - I would knock it over!), it's terribly charming!
Needs some sort of light that shines through holes in the roof and we're set! and then a place to put my bed time lotion, lip balm, etc...
I noticed on the designers website that there is a wall mounted version...
Like much of cute design, that's all it is -- my glasses, book, tissue box, lamp, and drawer full of bedside meds and other things make this idea totally nonfunctional for me.
I somehow keep thinking it would make a nifty display for some small sculptural art, though -- whimsical, of course. Like a folk art carving of a frog or something unexpected...
Is is soooo Family Dollar...
Other than the price tag.....it's a cute idea in the right room. Personally, I need more bedside beer bottle space.
Lol, it is sooo Family Dollar Store!!
