According to Dutch designer Mieke Meijer, the Blend bed was inspired by the 17th century practice of sleeping in a position between sitting up and lying down (lying down was associated with being dead). Thus, his bed literally combines the forms of a bed and chair, in the process creating a night table on each side.

wasn't this just featured on here? and isn't it kind of a loaded question to ask if it is stiff looking in the middle of a room with a concrete floor and hardly any colors?
Yes, it was here before...
...and I didn't vote "Not" because it's too stiff looking -
- but because there's wasted space where a drawer should be - Not even a shelf!
I voted Not because it looks stupid, not stiff.
Apartment Therapy, we report.... they decide
Absolutely love everything about this, especially the artful design.
Looks like a jail cell -- brrr -- I need another blanket.
If I sit in that chair, where does my left leg go? Rubbing up against the bed?
I adore it! I hate sitting on the edge of my bed to put shoes on etc but this would be a perfect little spot to perch.
Solid idea. Would like to see a little more whimsy in the execution.
I like it, simple and functional.
BTW Mieke is a woman's name in the Netherlands!
It looks like a church pew for lazy people.
If I slept in that bed that pitcher and glass would be shattered on the floor in mere seconds. They shouldn't be dead even with the pillows! That's an accident waiting to happen.
not: i have a thing about laying my head close to where someone's butt is supposed to go.
reminds me of having a lovely bath next to a toilet seat.
would be awesome if the chair was constructed with an integrated drawer under the seat. i've seen a chair like that before, but the designer's name escapes me
I like the look, but what about a few years from now, and I'm tired of it? Not like regular bedtables that can be moved around, repurposed, replaced.
