Design duo James Plumb created this chandelier of many mismatched lampshades in vintage fabrics. The lamps are suspended by hand-dyed silk flex. Do you like the effect? Survey below the jump.
James Plumb uses discarded antiques to make assemblages, lighting ("luminairs") and interiors.

Shaw's Original Fir...
not my style, but this could be pulled off in the right home...
visually interesting but then I think of my cabin with the same ceiling and I think of dust and spider webs.
I am a fan of clusters. I like how these look lit up, but what are they like in the light of day...I hope it is not a little like "grandma has lost it and stuck all her lamps on the ceiling" :) Love you grandma! :)
I just spotted these in anthropology and they seem to look great both day and night:

And this is a cluster, but not yet a light, but I think would be really cool if turned into one:

i love clustered chandeliers. mamacita restaurant here in s.f. has clustered chandeliers with large rusted metal lights - can make a great effect when the right materials are used in a space.
omg i love it. i love it ferociously.
This is really cool looking- I probably couldn't make it work in my own space- but it would be a fun, cheap project to try!
Very well done IMO.
Pretty. But what does it look like when you turn off the lamp? Probably like a dusty old thrift store rack of used lamp shades.
as soon as I saw this photo I thought of Alice in Wonderland for some reason - and I love it.
What a mess.
STH - I agree.
This looks good in contrast to such darkness (as in the picture), but would be strange in a more lit room (with too much of the wires showing).
very a la Alice in Wonderland! this would go great with a carousel banner that I found last week at the antique flea market!
love it.
I do like cluster chandis but not so sure about the lampshades (saw the cutest cluster teacup chandi though!)

Beautiful, but it would definitely have to be in the right home.
Whimsically elegant.
