Hmm, we like the idea behind Melissa's Instructables for a Flat Screen TV Cover. She has a point about keeping a valuable large panel screen protected from dust and scratches (our cats occasionally like to paw at our 40" LCD to our horror). But at the same time, we think a cover like this draws way too much attention to itself and looks out of place. What do you think? Is this the compromise that "promote(s) marital harmony" like Melissa claims? Or this crafting gone too far?
Personally we think this is a nice setup without the cover. Perhaps if the LCD's case was white, the set would be less visible, but otherwise I don't think anyone would think the modestly sized LCD would be much of an eyesore, especially with the assortment of other objects surrounding it. And if anything, women today are just as much into their large TV sets as men, so whose to say women want to hide their flat panels?

i have thought about making on for our tv in the bedroom, It doesn't get a ton of use, so I would love to cover it up the rest of the time, prolong it's life.
I would put a large piece of artwork on a canvsas over it and attach it to the wall with a hinge.
I have seen lcd covers that aren't terrible looking. They are essentially a wood box with a couple of hinges and bi-fold fronts on them with a piece of artwork on the doors. I personally think that an lcd should just be displayed as hiding never looks as seamless as it should but if you are going to do it don't make a tv cosie, do it right.
Plasma cozy? Not sold. Either put it away or display it with pride.
There are lots of ways to adapt old cabinets and furniture so that a display can unfold, open, rise, or otherwise reveal itself to people.
If you like technology and it works for you, get a great looking stand or wall mount.
If you want to tuck a piece of art over the wall mount, brilliant....
But a Plasma Cozy is not the wave of the future.
Saw this idea in Blueprint or Dwell a few years ago and considered making one for my small tv. And I was thinking of using some plain red dishtowels to make a cover, because they were the right size. But then I realized I could drape the dishtowel over the tv to get the same effect -- without any sewing or work!
I like the idea, but I've had a more than a few friends be really confused by it. They don't get it at all.
I've given a lot of thought to this issue. Here's my solution:
