We've been going through a pretty major awakening to a wider range of styles than ever before. Our eclectic style is reaching new heights. So when we spotted this custom bed by Vicente Wolf in the May issue of Elle Decor, we smiled...
While this isn't a bed that we could imagine owning (not like it's an option even if we did want to have this bed!), the playful spirit of blending stark modernism with very traditional 18th century style, inspired us. Kudos to Wolf and the homeowners, Stan and Annette Cook, for their whimsy and gusto.
That said, we're dubious about whether you'll agree with us on this one...

So sorry . . . it's not so much the mix of eras. That could work. It's just that the "classic" piece in this case is, to my eyes, so ugly.
BUT . . . kudos to being daring! Love the idea of it, if not the reality.
Love the stainless poster bed.
Love the gilded French headboard upholstered in the same linen as the duvet and bench.
Love the Upholstered wall.
But not all 3 together.
And very much hate the cheap tie-top curtains on the bed...
yes. the shower curtains do look bad, as does the bed frame
Not liking anything.
Nice gilded headboard. The metal frame without the headboard just screams "hospital" to me - with those horrible curtains, eek. What a weird combination.
Sorry.
Too much!! I think in this case, the mishmash of styles takes away from the room. I missed the upholstered wall the first time I looked because of all the other stuff going on. Upholstered walls are too expensive to be overpowered by other stuff.
ooo, i really like that ottoman with it’s clean skirt! where can i find one like that?
The mismatched end tables are really bugging me, yuck! Though I do really like the gilded headboard upholstered to match the comforter, not with that metal frame though.
I love everything about it. It is a perfect blend between modern and classic. The color scheme is also very serene. The curtain behind the headboard makes the room a lot less formal.
hot mess
I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I think removing the curtain (or at least using a different one) might make it look better.
This is really ugly in a really random way. I especially dislike the white curtain behind the upholstered headboard--it gives off a hospital vibe.
I feel like this is everything I dislike crammed into one space. Fussy, formal, 'traditional'... those flowers. That 'comes with the wallet' photo on the nightstand. Not me, I'm afraid.
I reject this almost entirely. Take away the silver frame and the curtain and you have a room.
This bed treatment is equivalent of wearing two pair of shoes at once: overdone in a completely unnessary way, distroying the original funtional attractiveness altogether.
It's Vicente Wolf. He likes to use very beautiful things and poke you in the eye at the same time. I am not wowed by the juxtaposition of the ornate headboard and the sleek four-poster, but if the Cooks love it---that's all that matters.
I would like to see this same four-poster rendered in gold leaf, or rose gold. Rose gold with the gray and white would make me faint.
This is the very definition of "over-designing." Despite liking the elements individually, one has to accept that they may not work together. Kind of like orange juice and cereal. Good on their own. Caca combined.

You can call Vicente Wolf...
...or look at Ballard Designs for something somewhat similar.
I don't like the curtains behind the bed and I the wall it's a sight for sore eyes. But in general I like the style (and I love the bed!). I think the best rooms are those with mixed furniture.
Just buy what you like and only what you like (not something you think will match what you have already) and most of the time the pieces end up working together.
I like this a lot. While I don't know if I would go all-out and put this furniture and wall treatment in my own bedroom, (if I could afford it!) I feel like it would make a really awesome hotel room in some chic boutique hotel.
um hello! train wreck! breeeeeeeeeeeeeeeec ....
Hmm... I love the antique looking headboard but the modern bit just isn't doing it for me!

I like the modern approach to a canopy....but I think it may have more appeal to people who appreciate modern if the linens used were more updated. Then again, I like any type of canopy looking bed.
That white curtain makes it look like a hospital bed. Remove it, and choose a nice framed picture for the wall behind it instead.
