Our first thought was "disgusting." Who would want a lamp that was designed to look like it had cobwebs all over it? But then, of course, the Zeppelin being by Marcel Wanders, we had our doubts. Could this be the new cool?

Maybe for Halloween
reminds me of that scene in Alien... you know the one! aaack!
Very Edward Gorey haunted house.
well, i saw the picture before i read what it was supposed to be. i think it's oddly sexy. it looks sort of aquatic. like some sort of shell. i never even thought of cobwebs. that said, i can't think of many rooms it would work in other than a weird cafe or maybe an artsy salon.
This is a tribute piece to the original Cocoon Range by Flos - designed by Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and Tobia Scarpa from the 1960's. It is an iconic lamp and manufacturing process that has been around for over 30 years. It wasn't designed at all to "look like it had cobwebs all over it", at all, that is simply the manufacturing process of creating a skin over a wire structure.
I've admired it for a long time. But I like a good shot of creepy and macabre.
I voted NOT, but I could change my mind if I saw it in context. A good designer could really work this in a room.
How many people does it take to change a Zeppelin light bulb?
It's creepy and a little upsetting, but also gorgeous.
Love it. Looks like a fight between a sphere fixture and chandelier.
It's what a chandelier would look like if Christo and Jeanne-Claude designed it. Love it.
I suspect this design is fetish-inspired. So if you're sexually repressed, you won't get it.
I like it because it looks like a sea urchin.
vagary - uh oh! you just opened up a very large can of worms. i'm sure a lot of folks here would disagree with your accusation that the sexually-repressed wouldn't get it. how about the sexually-repressed who do get it? or the ones with healthy sex egos who don't get it? you just said a whole lot about your own self with your statement.
luv,
forensic psychologistish one
I don't think it looks at all like cobwebs or at all macabre. I agree with the sea creature comments. Beautiful.
I love it. One of my favorites. But I don't think the image above does it justice. The only part I don't like is how the bulb looks when you are standing under it.
Fugly.
Somebody thought; "Hey, this lamp looks good in its wrapping paper."
I like it better than the word "fugly."
Very hot indeed...if you have an imagination
I've had a crush on this monster for quite sometime.
I want a voting option for "weird." That was my gut response, though I still can't figure out if it's a negative or positive weird.
When I first saw this I thought it was quite lovely in a cocoon sort of way - then I read your comment about it looking like its covered in cobwebs - now I think its disgusting and can't stop thinking of spiders and its giving me the heebie-jeebies!
It probably isn't, but it sure looks like a fire hazard, just waiting to ignite. It also looks like it would need daily dusting to maintain.
