Um, apparently this is over my head - I don't get it - what is it suppose to be? Or do? It just looks like a venetian blind covering a white box - can someone tell me what I'm missing?
Like, as opposed to doors? I think not.
It's a TV/Media stand or you could use it to store shoes or linens or clothing or pots and pans or whatever. It's weird but intriguing at the same time - at least to me. From my point of view it would make for an interesting media console with a shout-out to the 80s craze over venetian blinds. Put the blinds in an "open" position and you fire your remote controls at your audio and video components hidden behind. It's certainly more interesting and quirky than a media cabinet that's wide open or fronted with glass doors.

To hide stuff baskets with lids would look better.
I did this once with non-rolling bamboo roller shades on the large open section of a media cabinet. *I* did it because I was broke, had the shade, and needed to hide the miscellaneous media stuff in the compartment. But it was a kludge and I upgraded the very minute I could. The blind could be flipped up like a curtain to get access. Shades would be a much bigger problem, functionally.
I'd rather have doors or even curtains.
Maybe in about 10 years this might be a bit more stylish
Blinds like that get dusty enough when they're several feet off the floor...those would be a nightmare to keep clean.
They don't even look good in dorm room windows. Why would anyone think they would improve an Ikea shelf?

Yeah, the dust factor is enough for me to vote no. The dangly cord would be annoying too- my cat would probably be playing with it constantly, and if you had a baby or toddler in the house it could be a safety issue if you didn't keep the cord out of reach somehow. Kind of an interesting concept though.

doors would be nicer to look at and more functional. What's the point of blinds? do you want the option to just see a little bit of your junk stashed under there?
