Just ran across this on the last day of bathroom month - a special shaving pedestal/razor holder to install in the shower. The copy states, " The sculptured foot rest's angled design allows you to balance your leg and shave with ease. Hot or not?
Available from Frontgate for $29.50.

Sprout Side Table
I feel about this the same way I felt about those commercials for the razors with the shaving cream built in. Shaving is not that complicated - razor, cream and leg. We don't need fancy accoutrement to help with it.
Many cut accidents waiting to happen as your foot slips off this silly little costly thingy you'll use once or twice and then resort to your most comfortable way of shaving your legs.
Especially since you'll be soaping your legs and that soapy suds will flow to your feet. Who invented this wussy thing?
I'm going to disagree here. I don't have this item, but I could see it being useful if you only have a shower stall.
When I renovated my bathroom, I took out the tub and replaced it with a large shower stall, but there's no ledge or anything now to rest your foot when shaving. I personally wouldn't install this thing, but I can at least see its value.
You actually shouldn't shave your legs in the shower anyway - it's a real waste of water.
Useful, yes I suppose. But I think it is distracting looking from any streamline bathroom and also it looks like it would be a gross mold collector around the edges, just another fussy thing to have to clean around.
I'd hate to slip and bonk my head on that!
Since we only have a (very narrow) shower stall and I was sick of nearly slipping every time I bent down to shave my legs, I installed one of these. Not smart. The epoxy/glue they provide isn't up to the job of supporting the weight of a foot resting against it and eventually it started pulling away from the wall and collecting mildew. Thankfully, it came right off and didn't leave a trace behind.
I have something similar. It's called the edge of the tub.
I actually sit down when I shave my legs in the shower. I angle the showerhead away from me so it doesn't rinse the shaving cream off.
Could be handy, but it's also very ugly. :)
I have a shower stall -- and arthritis. If the implementation actually WORKED, this would be excellent. It's very difficult to shave one's legs in a shower without drowning as the water runs over your bent down head, and painful to reach that low with no support like the edge of the tub.
(As for water useage, if shaving your legs is how you wash them, it takes only seconds more water use and fewer products since you can use your bath soap rather than shaving creams.)
I'm so glad I'm a guy...
You could also depilate, with a depilator (non-wax), which doesn't require any water whatsoever and lasts for... well, I've had my 35-euro (then 200-franc) electric depilator for 12 years now, and it's still going strong. Plus I only have to use it once a week, since the hair takes that long to grow back. (And no, it doesn't hurt, just a bit twingy and weird when you first start, then you get used to it. On the other hand, you'll never cut yourself, since that would be impossible!)
These are what they look like:

This pedestal would be nice in the bathroom though (outside the shower), since I get kind of tired of balancing on one leg. I don't think you're supposed to put a lot of weight on it, but just use it to help balance?
I think it is a good idea. The edge of the tub isn't an ideal height for me. I would prefer something higher. It would also help keep my leg out of the water.
oh my god, i looked for these every where a couple of years ago when i had an apartment with a single shower stall...this would have saved me so much trouble and so many awkward positions as i attempted to shave!
I had one of these in our double shower (no tub edge) when we moved in. It wasn't pretty, but it was handy ... until it fell off. Now, we have an outline of whatever held it on on the tile. :(
I think it's great.
I'd use it for shaving and for buffing my feet with a pumice between pedicures.
I have nowhere to put my foot when I shave. My foot slipped off the teensy tiny ledge and I cut the heck out of my leg, so this would be a welcome contraption in my book.
When I moved into my apartment, I was really concerned about how exactly I was going to shave in a shower stall (I've also had a shower/bath combo). But I've just learned to become more flexible and keep my foot on the floor of the shower while shaving. It's actually REALLY easy and more comfortable that way.
this would be really useful. I'd always had seats in my shower or shower/baths so I could put my foot on the edge. now we have a narrow shower that I can hardly bend over in. it's very uncomfortable, causes me to hurry and miss some streaks, and I've almost passed out once or twice after standing back up too quickly, (low blood pressure). I'd rather have a little ugliness than wake up on the shower floor. that said, I'd much prefer one that was installed as a tile, (and hopefully match in color to blend in).
Oh man - first thing in the morning I have the worst balance and this would have saved me from more than one near-death experience.
And for those who say shaving in the shower is a waste of water - who says you have to have the water on while you shave? I just turn it off and restart it when I need to rinse it off!
I use an existing shelf in my shower (no tub in my bathroom). I took a big chunk out of my ankle once, so the shelf has found a second use. =)
And I turn off the water when I lather up, otherwise yes, it can be a waste of water.
I have this!
Well actually my tiled shower has one of those permenant soap holder tiles and it's bizarrely low...as in perfect height to put my foot on when I shave. My boyfriend thinks it's the weirdest thing that I use it to stabilize me leg when I shave. I'll have to show him this post.
PS. My showerhead has a stopper setting so I don't have to readjust the water temp when I'm done shaving. I just switch the nozzle to the stopper position and then on again. It's great.
Very ugly seashell look, but I can see how a more modern, sleek design could be really practical.
I stop the water and fill it a bit in the tub (like guys do with the sink) and then shave. My roommate lets the shower run...
I have one of these! I've had it for about 5 years, installed it myself. It's never fallen off, and it's a lifesaver for shaving in the shower. (All we have is a shower stall, so I can't sit on the edge of the tub). We have white shower tiles that are about the same size square as the footrest, so it blends right in. I lo-ove this product - for the record. :-)
I could totally see that thing snapping off the wall, and me falling and slicing my leg open.
In my opinion, a better solution to the shower stall problem is to get a little shower stool. Something made of plastic and easy to clean. Here's a few on Amazon:

That's what I used when I didn't have a bathtub. If it takes up too much space, it doesn't have to stay in the shower stall for the whole shower. In fact, you can move it out of the shower and have a nice little seat for putting on your lotion.
'Hot' idea, 'not' execution.
