Any Realtor will tell you that a staged house will fetch significantly more than an empty one - but consider the work involved in staging a house: hanging pictures, moving sofas, etc. A few companies have taken home staging virtual.
Traditional home staging can range from a few hundred dollars to thousands. Virtual staging can incorporate just about any furnishing or decoration into a home that you can dream up - regardless of the actual cost.
Virtually Staging Properties of Atlanta is one of a few companies competing virtual staging business. They will turn your photo of an empty-room into a home, allowing for prospective buyers to better visualize the space.
Virtually Staging Properties charges from $225 for three rooms to $525 for five. For comparison, the owner of Virtually Staging Propertie's wife who runs a traditional staging company, would charge $2,200 to $2,400 for three months of staging furniture rental (in Atlanta, GA).
While Virtually Staging Properties says they won't change the appearance of a room beyond the furnishings, some real estate agents have been accused of doctoring photos, adding lush landscaping or deleting overhead power lines which can misrepresent a property.

I think this is a fabulous idea. However, there are a few flaws. It only helps with pictures; when people actually go inside the home it will still be empty and they will have less sense of space. (It's one thing to see picture of a staged room and it's another to walk around in one.)
Also, I think listings using this technology should state as much. I wouldn't be offended if I saw in the listing that it was staged digitally.
