For a college wine and cheese party, I ended up making charms on heavy paper and Xerox-transferring copies of architectural scale figures from a book of them called "Entourage" from about 1974, and making loops out of small-gauge wire to wrap around the stems.
A very big hit in the architecture student crowd.
I've used little girls ponytail bands as impromptu wine charms for guests (all parents). Silly, but I don't want anyone touching my wineglass but me!
