We have to concede that Eddie Ross, despite some of his more Martha-inspired tendencies, has some brilliant ideas. Case-in-point: this morning, Eddie posted some quick, incredibly easy tips for customizing lampshades that are right up our alley (aka spray paint and tape).
After the jump, photos and a walk-through...

Using basic, liquidated shades found at the Salvation Army, Eddie simply spray painted the shades, and added trim using spike tape, a thin, cloth tape that leaves no residue when removed.

We're not sure how light reads through a spray painted shade; we imagine it might take a few coats to completely eliminate any thin spots. But how great is this? Finding the right shade can be strangely difficult, not to mention expensive. Why not salvage an unloved find and customize it for around $5.00?

The idea is good but that green colour looks horrible :-S
I like the black one better.

...and what's up with those Ugg Boots???
Oh Eddie ... the Uggs ... I hope he's wearing them because he doesn't care if they get covered in green spraypaint ... ;)
Maybe if we skin the Uggs, they could make a cool shade.
Love it, way to go Eddie!!!
Is it me or does it seem like everything he "designs" could adorn a gay funeral parlor?
Eddie, I love your blog!
eddie is annoying. when he said it wasn't the last we've seen of him, i felt almost as irritated as i did thinking we might have to see four years of palin as vp.
Can't believe how nasty he was. And these are not original or creative ideas. Spray paint a lamp shade, repaint a thrift store find...WooHooo, call the Nobel Prize committee.
zaky, radiobaby, and dM voiced my thoughts exactly
I hope he becomes a pariah, and Martha Stewart cans him.
Oh good grief, who hasn't painted a lampshade before? And after seeing the pics of his granny apartment, I almost slipped into a coma. My grandmother's house is more alive than his.
Lots o' love here for Eddie Ross, guys! I myself never heard of the guy before, and I checked out his lampshade post and found it innocuous enough. What's with the loathing?
I love his blog! It's interesting and fun. And come on, you don't really believe what you see on those reality shows, do you?
The loathing, I suspect, comes from his appearance on Top Design, where he showed himself to be a truly vile, phony, bitchy jerk.
---Oh. Thanks, zunzie.
