Room For Color is happening over at Apartment Therapy and it's certainly motivating us all to add to some color in our homes. Wall color can add a ton of charm and character to the space but the lingering smell can be rather off putting.
Ideally you'll be painting with low-odor, low-VOC paints, but if you're not, you'll find you need to leave the windows open and vacate the space for a day to let the smell of new paint leave the space. Sometimes that's not always possible — maybe due to lack of time or ample windows to open.
Luckily, there's an easy tip to help speed up the process! Add a bucket of water to the center of the room to help remove the new paint smell. It's not rocket science and it certainly won't cost you any additional money, but it'll get the job done!

Also, if you put a few drops of vanilla extract, or your favorite extract, into the paint before stirring, it helps to reduce the odor of the paint.
Done it. Works.
I've also added vinegar to water and had great results. Got that tip from a fellow customer at a big box store.
I'd love it if these tips included some explanation of how they work. Why does putting a bucket of water in the room eliminate the paint smell?
