In a city such as Philadelphia, hotels are a dime a dozen. Nice hotels, however, are not a dime a dozen &mdash which is why we're so excited (albeit a little late), for Kimpton dropping the beautiful Hotel Palomar in the city of brotherly love.
Personally, as a Philadelphian, I don't tire of history and momentos from the past &mdash the more the merrier in my book. The hard part is, finding a common ground for modern design and history to stand on together.
A great example of finding common ground is the lobby of the Hotel Palomar. Ben Franklin takes his stand up top of a few pedestals and keeps a watchful eye over the guests getting ready to check in. Local modern art can be found throughout the hotel, which is extremely important given all of the amazing talent in this city! Also featured in the hotel, Square 1682 &mdash A restaurant named for the year William Penn issued his plans for what is now Philadelphia.
A huge selling point for me on the hotel is the fact that it's a LEED certified luxury hotel. It's important, especially in urban environments for hotels to strive to be LEED certified. Their website explains they were able to achieve the certification through their innovative design, unique sustainable building site, water and energy efficiency, as well as eco-friendly building materials and furnishings. If those amazing green high back chairs and chandelier are eco-friendly, more power to them!
Call us crazy, but we really want to stay here. Yes, we live just a few blocks from the Hotel Palomar, but we can pretend to be tourists and stay in one of Philadelphia's finest hotels.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I recently stayed at the Palomar in Dallas. I have traveled many many times and have never stayed at a hotel where the service was so stellar, the staff was friendly and helpful, and one of the best features is...all Kimpton hotels let you bring your dog(s)! You can even leave your dog(s) in the room while it's being cleaned. It makes your stay so nice when they're that accommodating.
Great to know about this.
The Palomar in DC is also awesome... the best Kimpton in the city.
I've stayed here twice now for work trips to Philly. It is a GREAT hotel. The service is awesome and the decor is really fun. They also have free pretzels in the afternoons!
I stayed in Kimpton's Allegro in Chicago: very good use of space and expert furnishings .
It would of been nice to have mentioned the design firm, Kimpton does not actually do the design work.
Its too bad that you're late to the game, they ran a FANTASTIC special in the first few weeks that allowed you to book weekends through either January or February at the lowest rate downtown (save the scary hotel behind the convention center construction).
I have a meeting there next week - very excited to tour the hotel.
Bathroom love. <3
Loved the Palomar in Dallas, will have to check this out.
We actually just purchased a condo in the Hotel Palomar in Arlington, VA. AMAZING views of DC and the Potomac and all of DC. And the hotel amenities are outstanding! Highly recommend this boutique hotel to anyone traveling and looking for a little funk and class all in one!
I stayed in the Palomar in San Francisco a few weeks back. It was great!
