We slinked East Bay architect Beverley D. Thorne's house for Dave Brubeck once before, but Dave Weinstein's piece on him in Saturday's Chron goes into more detail on his contribution to the California landscape.

Thorne's signature usage of steel I-beams in place of wood has enabled him to build daring structures into hillsides, cantilevered houses that "float over the site with little grading or disturbance," and that last "for a thousand years."

For fans, the Chron piece lists some local addresses for drive-by viewings.
