We went to the Merchandise Mart today for the rollout of House and Garden magazine's Designers' Best 07.
Designer's Best is an annual survey of designers on their favorites - the who, what and where of the design trade. This year's survey was the largest ever; 20,000 designers and architects took part.
It's an exhaustive list, covering everything from flooring and fabric, wallpaper and home theater, linens and furniture to hottest showroom help (yay, Holly Hunt Chicago!) and the designers' favorite style icons.
A good thing: in addition to a print copy, the entire list is online. It's a good resource to bookmark, as it is complete with urls and phone numbers.
As part of the project, four cities were singled out where designers focused on local resources. NY, LA, Atlanta and Chicago were given the local treatment (so we have a few more spots to add to our list of places to cover in the Stores Guide now...).
All in all, it was a fun day at the Mart, with a panel of designers showing slides of recent work, showroom tours, very pleasant company (Jan and Gina from Chicago Home) and nice itsy-bitsy sandwiches for lunch!
