Name: Gianna & Lance
Location: Spokane, Washington
We are renters, so anything constructive is out of the question. There are things we would love to tear down, etc., but we have to work it with what we've got. I recently discovered a Mid Century shop down the street and have become obsessed.
On a budget of a bartender (me-Gianna) and a barista (Lance), I think we've done pretty well choosing what to splurge on (the slat coffee table for example). We are both artists, so we have a lot of our own paintings in the house, as well as pieces we've collected over the years from families, travels, and of course — living in Spokane where there is almost nowhere to shop for home deco — World Market!
Thanks, Gianna & Lance !

I'm really confused by the layout of the living room. Why is there a coffee table up against the back of a couch facing the fireplace? Why isn't the couch facing the fireplace with the coffee table in front of that?
It's lovely. I'd like to see some wider shots of the living room area, or a floor plan, as I'm having a hard time developing a sense of space.
I like it! "Livc" maybe the coffee table is behind the couch because they use that area as a lounge/low to the ground area in front of the fireplace??? There is that comfy rug. They already have another coffee table in front of the chairs. I think if the table behind the chairs was taller, or at least the same height as the chairs it would make more sense? Anyways, great job with place on your limited budget!
I am also confused - why not create the seating area around the fireplace? Even if the rug is in the front for lounging, isn't it odd when you have company over and you sit with your backs to what should probably be the focal point in the room? There must be a good reason for this - please explain! I would put the couch under the window on one side and keep that armchair basically in the same spot, across from the sofa....
:) Nice stuff though.
I'm confused because one pic shows the beige couch with it's back to the fireplace, another shows the small brownish couch's back to the fireplace.
I love this! And I live in Spokane, too! Which mid century shop did you two discover? The only one I'm aware of is Unified Groove Merchant, which is fabulous, but I'd love to know if there's another place in town. Also, where did that blue pillow with the bird come from? Love it.
i'm confused too, but i really enjoyed the vignette you created in the third photo.
[Wishes he could find a job that would let him relocate to Washington State.]
Agree with all of the comments re: seating faced away from fireplace. It is *odd*, though I can certainly understand if the couple/family find themselves drawn towards the opposite wall (perhaps a kitchen entrance is there?) and want to include everyone in on the conversation at that point. Nonetheless, it makes the living room a bit claustrophobic for most tastes and allowing viewing access to the fireplace would solve the problem.
That said, they have a great use of decorative wall items and art! I love the vintage floor lamp, collection of small art, etc. It's one of those rooms that you *know* everything in it has a meaning. :)
Confusion aside - I love the lamps in the bedroom!
Regardless on how you layout your furniture: I find you home very calming and beautiful.
so what the couch is away from the fireplace...just cause you have a fireplace doesn't mean you HAVE to put your couch facing it...
geez
that aside its very cute and cozy.
I don't necessarily think the couch should directly face the fireplace (as in, same spot but turned around), but it should certainly be oriented towards it somehow. It's a small room and having the couch's "back" to the FP makes it seem too closed-in.
Nice style, though. I am in love with all of the lamps!
I would love to know what kind on rug that is on the living room floor.
bohemian?
Cute eclectic style here. Love it!
same question....what the hell is the couch doing with the back to the fireplace?
