Name: Johanna
Location: Buchanan, Michigan
My house, built in 1857 and known as the DeArmond House is a prominent Greek Revival 2 story home in a soon to be historic neighborhood. I rescued the home a year ago from the previous owner who was about to replace all the original windows and had carpeted throughout in wall to wall beige.
The kitchen has been the main focus of an epic remodel with the removal of 2 walls, the revealing of the original poplar flooring and a custom re-fit with a salvage sink, hand built local black walnut sink cabinet, metro shelving with salvage butcher block and various other vintage finds.
I rarely buy anything new and so have furnished the home with an eclectic mix gathered over the 10 years of my life here in America. I am originally from London.
The process thus far has taught me that patience and an open mind lead to the expression of individuality and a healthier bank account.
Thanks, Johanna!

The first photo reminds me very much of a painting I once saw depicting George Bernard Shaw in such a living room!
Congrats on saving house and reawakening it. Definitely, a house tour should be on the cards.
Gorgeous!!!
Love the house. So beautiful, the textures, colors...
Stop playing with the lens-baby and do a house tour with sharp photography!
You have such a beautiful and welcoming home. It's nice to see posts from Michigan :)
I am SWOONING. So Bloomsbury-like! Count me in for another call for a house tour and more close up photography!
This is beautiful, beautifully rescued ad heart felt. Another vote for more pictures.
How about a photo of the outside of the house? I love Greek Revival houses.
I love your row of scissors! What a cool idea. I do have to ask, though, what's with the tilt-shift?

I CALL SHENANIGANS!!
Is it my imagination or are pics 3 & 4 pics of inside of a dollhouse??? Something about those 2 pics look suspect.
since this house has gotten so many great compliments...its time for a critical one! Too much clutter..too much everything. The sofas look tired! Too much furniture in the living -dineing room and On a positive note, t is great that you saved the original windows!
hillgirl.....sofas are Bernhardt, bought off craigslist.
sleek...oh my gosh, those pics of 3 and 4 do look like a doll house..hmmm! lol
sleek1....no, not a doll's house, just playing with photography.
Are you serious there Mikey? Sorry we don't all have the funds to "refresh" our sofas yearly...
Whoa. I love that living room.
Must. See. More.
this place feels homey, old-world and not at all cliched.
