(Welcome to Ashley from Portland. She is one of the bloggers trying out for a place on the Apartment Therapy editorial team, covering different cities in the NW. Comments welcome!)

Name: Sara, Oliver and baby Winter
Location: Portland, Oregon. Homestead Neighborhood aka: Pill Hill

Ashley shares a fantastic Portland home with us as part of her tryout. She writes: After purchasing their 1892 bungalow, Sara and Oliver felt the divided rooms did not create the most comfortable living space in their 2000 square foot home....

After knocking down two walls which opened up the entire first floor, they were able to focus on their playful style of decorating. Color plays a big part in their home and it is obvious they are not afraid to use it. Each room displays a variety of hues that carry over to each adjoining room, creating a flow through their eclectic living area. An added bonus that made this house particularly desirable was a separate 300 square foot studio on the property. Although, originally used as an artist's loft, Sara and Oliver reinvented it into a guest house adding plumbing and a full bathroom. Both structures are located in the hills, peaking out from the forest, which provides a hidden sanctuary from the busy city life.

We've had amazing response to our Apartment Therapy House Tour Submission Form. While we will work with homeowners of our favorite homes to feature full tours, we will also share the best as House Calls — short, quick tours of readers' homes. Submit your home here.
