Name: Lori
Location: Westover Hills neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia
When my husband and I moved into our home during the summer of 2006, we had just moved from an apartment in D.C. and had no idea what to do with an entire house! With an intense real estate market (at the time), we didn't have a lot of houses to choose from and still be in the neighborhood we liked, right next to the James River. We ended up buying this house, but it needed a LOT of work. We set to work almost as soon as the ink dried on the closing papers.
Our house was built in 1925 and my plan was to use a lot of antique furnishings, while also integrating some more modern pieces. We also decided to gut our kitchen (which had last been remodeled in the 1980's with terrible tile) and add an addition onto the back of our house, which would serve as a connected kitchen/family room space. This area has since become the heart of our home, where we spend most of our time either relaxing or entertaining. We also painted the entire house (inside and out), landscaped the front yard and added a curved slate walkway, and added a back patio. Future plans include updating the upstairs bathroom.
We love our new neighborhood in Richmond — and now, after lots of work, we love our house!
Thanks, Lori!

Great House! Nice job on the kitchen. My house was built in Richmond in the 1940's so I appreciate your use of space.
amazing...I love it:) Great job!!!
Gorgeous! You did a great job!
AT, thanks for featuring a house that isn't completely modern or mid-century modern!
I love the house / door colors. Well done!
Wow! I'm all about modern and mid-century modern, but this place is ADORABLE and COZY! Very inviting!
The butcherblock in the kitchen is fantastic.
Great job! A thoroughly modern approach to traditional. Especially LOVE the kitchen, by the way. (And is that a doggie bed next to your fireplace in the living room? Love that too!)
Absolutely stunning... my dream *sigh*
I want to take a cozy nap in your house, and have some tea made in your adorable kitchen! And I am extremely jealous of your butcher block.
What a sweet little house!
Soo cute. I love the curb appeal.
Love it! I'd love to see more of the entire house.
That couch in the addition is great! Who was your architect? We are looking to do something similar to our cute cottage and enjoyed what you had done.
Cute and sweet! You've made some great choices here.
Your home is beautiful!!! Would like to see the rest.
So welcoming from the street! Nice job with color.
