Name: Katie Kelly McCormack & family
Location: neighborhood of Del Ray in Alexandria, Virginia
I am an interior designer living in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood with my husband Eddie and our three sons. Our home is an early 1930's American four-square, built when the neighborhood was centered around the local railroad (the area on our street where the trains used to roll through is now a playground and dog park). I would describe my style as 'Family Chic,' as I strive to inject elegance and warmth into everyday practicality.
I also love to weave elements from the past in with modern pieces to create a more exciting tableau. Our home is quite reflective of our five personalities, and that might be what I am most proud of — that you may glean a true sense of who we are and what we love just by a visit to our home.
Thanks Katie & Eddie!

White Enamel Four-P...
LOVE the wallpaper !!! And the bed!
Love to see an Alexandria home! Especially one with this much personality! My favorite part: the painted floors.
yeah, kickass wallpaper (and my favorite pet picture yet on AT). great colors, great space.
Wow, aeg85--what "apartment" are you viewing? Lovely & constructive comments, too.
I'd love to see more of this house.
Agreed SQ. Though it's too "fancy" looking for me, I still appreciate the detail that's gone into it...
Wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed! Pay them no attention.
I love the lamp on the lucite table, the bed, and the floors are beautiful. Sparkling clean...I can hardly believe 3 boys live here. Nicely done.
absolutely stunning! please, please, please, tell us the where the wall paper is from and who makes it!!!
I always look at things through feng shui eyes (can't help it) and the bedroom is a LOVELY example of perfect feng shui balance. I like the way that fabric was used in lieu of a headboard yet creates the same anchoring effect that a solid headboard would. I often recommend this, but now I have a photo to refer people to--thanks Katie & Eddie & AT! The balance of the side tables, lamps, etc is also contributing to good feng shui in the master bedroom.
did i read interior designer?
i concur. sort of 80's meets eclectic fancy fam chic!
a tad busy and dated for my liking. esp the kitschy wallpaper. some rooms need to be edited and refreshed so not to look too "try hard", and the family room is calling for a flat panel replacement for the archaic boobtube (which makes the whole home feel very passé). as an interior designer myself, it is difficult to view a home without discriminating taste and personal "designer eye" bias, so I have to say overall nice *family home*. The look you were striving for, right? as a fellow decorator, good on ya!
aeg85, gosh, i like pink walls & i respect myself & i'm 45!!!
(and to be fair, those walls aren't pink, they're lavender -ish)
i love the wallpaper & mirror & lucite table & even the lamp even tho i know i would hate the lamp in about 5 years b/c it's everywhere.
i would really love to see the light fixture in the hallway, it looks like purple glass drops........
as a mom of 2 boys, i'm really amazed!
i absolutely love the bed! i can imagine how cozy it is to lay there, surrounded by fabric, reading a book under those lights.
Okay, HOW did you manage to get your pets to pose so perfectly? :) Lovely home--especially the blue bird wallpaper. It's so pretty.
I'd love to see more of this house, too! House tour, maybe?
love this - house tour please!
ohhh so beautiful. The floors are awesome. I wish I'd be brave enough to have white floors. Great wall paper. Very airy and cozy at the same time
Beautiful ideas!
I have a question for the users of ApartmentTherapy.com, I was wondering if anyone (Designers, preferably) would like to offer themselves for a very SHORT interview for one of my classes at school, "writing for the professions". I have to conduct a short interview about your profession and write a report on it. Any volunteers would be greatly appreciated! :)

Love the floors. We're researching painting ours as well. Wondering how they stand up to kids? And did you do them? What process did you use. I've seen a bunch of AT notes on painting wood floors, but those look just like I'd want mine too! Thanks. And beautiful home.
Saw this paper -- "Daydream" -- in yellow at Dooce.com; it's by Julia Rothman, via Hygge and West: http://www.hyggeandwestshop.com/products/julia-rothman-for-hygge--west/
Lovely!
What a lovely home! Can we see more, please? I'm a huge fan of lucite against wallpaper - so pretty!
Love the mix of old and new. I want to see a house tour!
Sorry, but replacing a TV simply because it's older, but works just fine doesn't seem like the environmentally responsible thing to do. Lovely home BTW.
Katie,
I just want to say I love what you did to your bed. I have a bed that is very similar. You have inspired me. I have three questions... how are you hanging the lights and is that a body pillow that you are using behind the other pillows? if so where did you find a cute cover for it? i always sink into the bars of my bed while watching tv. Last question ( sorry for so many) where is your bedding from. i love how simply yet elegant it is.
I just love everything about this room?
beautiful home! i love the zebra rug- where did you get it??
The new "energy star" flat-panel tvs are way more energy efficient than older box-style tvs, especially with the latest LED technology (think incandescent vs led light bulbs). The older dated tvs are energy sappers and look hideous to boot!! They can be donated and recycled in an eco-conscious way (at least with the green footprint programs up here in Canada they are!). Time for a green change.
Really like your space and would like to see more of it - only thing I could live without is the dead skinned animal on the floor
