Name: Cristen
Location: San Francisco
I live in a tiny studio apartment that I estimate is 300ish sq ft and I LOVE it! When I moved in, 1.5 years ago, I was on a very tight budget that required me to be resourceful, cheap and creative with decorating. I spent very little money and almost everything was free, on sale/clearance, refurbished by yours truly or from Craigslist.com. In fact, I still don't have a curtain rod...but some how I have curtains. Baby steps. :)
I have an eclectic style. This is not only from my own need for variance as I get bored extremely easy, but I also love the challenge to keep good design principles in mind while putting together a hodgepodge of periods, colors and styles. I love walking into the same space time after time and finding something new about it. I try to create this with my space.
Thanks, Cristen!

Very cute but I couldn't deal with long shag carpet *shudder*. Just thinking about it gives me the heebiejeebies.
Very nice! Looks quite homey. I love that chest of drawers in the first picture, along with that view. I really like how the doors and windows frame the couch and give you a beautiful view right when you wake up! (I think... I would appreciate some pics that give a sense of how the living area and bed area tie into each other. I'm just guessing right now.)
Really cute place. What is the tall thing to the left of the window?
Ditto the tall thing? The stove is adorable, just right.
I have some tall things leaning against the walls in the hallway. My SF apartment has plaster and lathe walls, absolute misery to try and hang anything more than a slip of paper. So I hang heavier pictures/mirrors on some boards I repurposed from a bookshelf. It's OK, tho somewhat temporary looking.
LOL! The small frame is picture less.
That window is gorgeous and I love the kitchen, especially the art over the stove.
Is the "tall thing" a screen to block light and give privacy?
drool.
Very cute place!
@d4kk1tt3n
It's a nicely sized area rug - not wall-to-wall.
Feel better now?
I had a 'tall thing' that folded like that once...it was wooden panels hinged together as a screen. A decorator friend had faux painted some molding on it and then glue gunned handwritten invitations and thank you notes artfully all over the upper sections and decoupaged it. Was very cute but very heavy.
If you are using this tall heavy thing as a window screen, you might want to try a large framed canvas instead. You can order from Blick. Leave it white or paint something on it (solid color, or match it up to your window and faux window paint it for fun!).
@ bepsf : Yes and no... I guess then at least you could remove it. It's the texture of them that I hate. I was a kid in the 70s and I think that I'm scarred by walking barefoot on shag carpet, the feeling of it jsut grosses me out :(
@d4kk1tt3n --
How funny - I was a kid in the 70's too and remember the green/gold/cream shag rug for the livingroom that my folks hauled from house to house with great fondness...
...it's the sculptured-pile brown wall-to-wall that was in the house they bought in the late 70's that I have an abhorrence for.
adorable :) Love the way the blanket and flower pot go but are not matchy match -
perfect!
I love your sofa, the anywhere sofa from Urban Outfitters, I lust after it but my partner and I already have two more expensive sofas, one day it'll also be mine. I would love to see a three seat anywhere sofa, the grey colour is amazing and so is the simple sofa bed mechanism, folding it out like a futon on the floor, so much better to sleep on that traditional sofa beds (I also feel unsafe because of the steel/sharp hardware involved in the traditional sofa beds)
I love the whites in your apartment and encourage you to put up some framed black and white photographs and prints or a carefully chosen work of art.
What a piece of real estate!!
Such character and charm, congrats on finding it and making it lovely.
nice!
I especially like the scale of this place -- the small sofa, the little potted plants everywhere. (I well remember having to buy an armless loveseat/bench for my first studio because I simply couldn't make anything larger fit.) It makes it look decorated without being crowded.
So cute. That window is AMAZING. Who needs art when you have a mural of San Francisco behind your sofa???
so charming!
I love your window and think that your decor is just right, hip without being showy. You have the sweetest stove I think I've ever seen!
Shantiquax, I have tough laith and plaster walls, too. For some reason, picture hanging kit nails easily go in, but I can't get a screw into my walls for the life of me!
WHERRRE did you get that suzani bedspread???
Wow, I love this apartment! What a good use of space, and what great architecture - that window is to die for! This honestly may be a favorite AT home tour because there is nothing that I wouldn't want in my own home. I really like all the details, and I love how simple and uncluttered it is. Plus, it's great that everything was inexpensive, free, craigslist, etc. Great home, and I hope it will be getting a house tour soon. :)
Maybe I'm in a bad mood, or perhaps I'm getting a link to different photos, or maybe you people are all on drugs, but I don't see what the excitement's about. Yes, it's a wonderful space - high ceilings, beautiful trim, an amazing arched window - but the resident's contributions are mediocre at best. Ugly furniture, plants in cheap pots, a rather ill-advised wall decal, a terrifying rug that doesn't seem to match anything... the only halfway nice item is the bedspread.
I love it! Wondering which neighborhood this is in.
Light and white and airy - love it and especially envious of that beautiful window.
i agree with 'Blandwangon', maybe you're in a bad mood.
i also agree with many others that have commented, this is a lovely home.
Hmm, my mother taught me when you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all...this is a lovely apartment, very warm and soothing and that wall decal is just right...I just hope no bad mannered grumpies are ever invited to it. :)
where is the fridge and sink?
simple and good design elements.good job.
