Name: Nancy & Bill
Location: South End — Boston, Massachusetts
Nearly 10 years ago, Nancy and Bill bought one of the first new construction lofts in all of Boston. Though it was little more than concrete floors and steel beams, they were excited to have a blank canvas to truly show off their personalities.
One of Nancy's favorite things about the space is the angled support beams in the living area. What could easily be an eyesore became a way to carve rooms out of this massive open space. They subtly repeated the structural divides with the curved drop ceiling over the bar area. The 25-foot kitchen island is what they dreamed of when they started building out the space. They love to cook and host parties, and the island provides ample space to prep, serve and even seat 8! There's lighted storage underneath for all those serving platters, too.
Nancy and Bill love bright, bold colors and modern lines with healthy dose of pop art whimsy. Nancy's little climbing men on the kitchen cabinets make her smile — even before the morning coffee. Coming home is fun; she hang's her purse on a man-hand, flips on the soup can pendants over the island, and relaxes on the sofa with a martini amongst the olive throw pillows. They both admit that the bathrooms are a bit extravagant — nearing the point of ridiculous — though they readily admit that the jetted tub with built-in entertainment system definitely has its benefits!
The building is home to a number of talented artists (there's even a gallery on the street level), and many of the art and sculptures are pieces by the neighbors. With the expansion of the neighborhood and the addition of more artists' space, Nancy and Bill love touring the open market and studios for new inspiration.
Thanks Bill & Nancy!

White Enamel Four-P...
I like the use of bold colors, though I have to admit that aside from the living room painting, the kitchen, and the dining table...I don't like anything else. The bedroom reminds me of a child's bedroom, and I'm not a fan of the art in the bathroom, either. I'm no prude, I just don't like that kind of art.
is that chair from blues clues?
You've got Blue's Clues's Thinking Chair!!! Awesome!!!
Sit down in the Thinking Chair and think... think... thiiiink...
I love the chair! I hope you think of great ideas there!
Not my style, but hey...
It's not my style either because it would look out of place in my 50s mid-century modest but I really like the bright colors and the openess. I think I would like living there.
PeeWee Herman would love it.
I like the living room.
Usually I adore bright colors against a white background. I do not like this, though; it looks like a cartoon.
There is something really creepy about that bathtub/shower, too. Besides the dismembered torso next to it, I mean.
I am only seeing one accent wall painted orange. Every other wall and the ceilings all are white, which is giving this lovely condo a very cold and uninteresting feel. I love the way Nancy and Bill have stepped out of the box with their colorful, fun furnishings, and even though they may not be your particular taste, they do show this couple's personality. I'd suggest bringing some more color onto the walls and ceilings to make the artwork pop and warm up the space. Thanks for sharing your home with us Bill & Nancy.
more wall color, less eighties furniture.
The idea of having a new construction site to personalize is terribly exciting.
It's not really my style, but I'm sure they enjoyed customizing it and living in it everyday.
I like the bedroom! I would also thoroughly enjoy that shower. It looks intense.
love the blues clues chair in the bedroom. someday I'll have a big enough bedroom for big funky items!
I want to see more!!!!!
I immediately saw the Blue's Clues chair and felt like commenting on how awesome it is! :D
Love the man and woman paintings in the bedroom. Does anyone know who the artist is or where I might find something like this?
I like the bedroom (are we supposed to infer something from the off-center placement of the art? XD) and the living room (except for the tri-color floor lamp). Where did you get the olive cushions?
Back to the 80s yes... but in a good way!
Also I agree with lepidoptery - the olive cushions are very fun, as is the artwork in the bedroom... but unless the bed is centred under the painting THE UNIVERSE AS WE KNOW IT WILL END!
Seriously, it's bugging my OCD side like you wouldn't believe.
There's so much light and energy in this home that I feel like I just polished off a shot of espresso! Very refreshing.
the thinking chair !!
I keep coming back to this post. I really, really like your thinking chair. May I ask where you got it? Or did you make it yourself? Tell me please. :)
