Name: Shackett
Location: Melrose, Massachusetts
My home is a 1920 colonial in the suburbs of Boston that my husband and I recently purchased. We had been living in condos in the city for several years, so owning a house is a big change, and we've had lots of fun filling up all the rooms. Over the past 6 months, we've worked diligently to change the decor. The previous owners had a very, very traditional style, so we've tried to update it a bit with pops of color and some modern elements mixed with more traditional pieces that fit with the style and era of the house. Throughout the process, we've tried to maintain our own sense of style, without getting bogged down in what's currently trendy. I think we've done a great job transforming the house into a vibrant, warm home.
Thanks, Shackett!
We've had amazing response to our Apartment Therapy House Tour Submission Form that we launched last month. While we will work with homeowners of our favorite homes to feature full tours, we will also share the best as House Calls — short, quick tours of readers' homes. Submit your home here.

you did it!..this is beautiful and unique and still ties in with the era of your beautiful home!!! personality!
I really like the paint colors.
Very pretty! I would love to see more of the house. I used to live in Melrose and have always loved the victorians in the area.
Very nice job! This is a really pretty house and you tied it all together.

This is why I love old Craftsman homes. The thick mouldings. VERY WELL DONE.
looks good to me!
i love the teal color too! so pretty
I too have a 20s colonial, and its fun to see some of the same choices. Gray bedroom with iron bed, Bright yellow kitchen with stainless accents...
I really would love to know the color paint in the first picture! Also, I love the storage bins...looks like fun printed paisleys? Did she make these or buy them? I'd love to find some like this.
As warm and bold as the first room is, the remainder pale in comparison - and the Navajo Beige playroom just turns me off.
Thanks for all the positive feedback.
I can't think of the teal paint color off the top of my head, but I'll check and let everyone know.
As for the playroom, I think my photography skills are a bit lacking and the color looks more beige than it actually is. In person, it's more of an off-white. We've tried to add color in other ways in that room besides wall color since it's in the basement and has a tendency to be a bit dark.
Beautiful color choices!
The teal color is Valspar Ocean Voyage.
I love the colors too. What is the purple/periwinkle color you used in the room with the cute white dresser?
I love the quaintness of the home, and the colors are very inviting. The only thing I might change is the light fixture in the pantry. I'd replace it with a more modern pendant light that played on a combo of the yellow walls and the multi tile.
Love the teal as well -- and what color white is the trim? Am thinking about it for a room in my cottage -- which now has murk yellow walls and mud brown wood trim. Oh -- and kudos on the red and black with the teal. Looks great.
Love love the teal color! I would of liked to see something a but more fun in the playroom, maybe a pale blue? Great job though over all.
I've been trying to duplicate your chair with the red table. Is it from Ikea by chance? I'm ready to paint, but unsure if I will need to sand down the finish. Thanks
I love the corner space with the chair. and normally I don't prefer blue anywhere, but this blue you've used is stunning!
Beautiful pictures! Which color is the yellow one?
