Name: Logan & Katherine
Location: East Cambridge, Massachusetts
Logan and Katherine have lived in their two bedroom East Cambridge apartment for six years and were joined by their son Soren 2½ years ago. They are both New England transplants who met in Cambridge in 2003 and decided to stay forever. Determined not to have their home overrun by colorful plastic, they have worked hard to create a space that is kid-friendly without looking like a daycare — all while maintaining their sense of style.
They are a young, small family with a strong DIY mentality and have learned to be creative with space and a limited budget. They work around the little quirks that always make apartment living interesting. Most of their furniture has been made or refurbished by one of them, bought from Craigslist or snagged off the street.
They both love all the natural light that fills their apartment, especially during the dreary New England winters. Katherine says her favorite piece is the large scale photo she took of Logan and Soren at a local beach and loves how it looks with the orange chair she reupholstered — which she admits has seen better days thanks to their darling son. Logan loves the open living space which makes 800 square feet seem like much more. Soren’s favorite feature is the view of the trains which turn around about ten feet from their kitchen window — a little boy’s dream and city living at its finest.
It was important to them that their apartment feel like a real home and they can’t imagine living anywhere else!
Thanks Logan & Katherine!
-Kate

Hi I like the small upholstered chairs. Mdsfurnitureupholstery.com is the man to see in your area.
i spy harry potter books! that's all you need to please me!
Yay for DIY projects and uphostering those chairs themselves! Great fabric choices. I wish my apartment was as bright and cheery, and I am glad they didn't let their kid over run their space with 'plastic' stuff! Good choice.
I can see why the beach photo is your favorite - its striking yet tender. And it looks great set against the furniture. You have a beautiful, serene home.
Lovely.
I've been dying to paint my bedroom that exact blue too - could anyone advise of the color/maker I'm looking for?
Agreed that the huge photograph is gorgeous. The feel of the entire apartment is very nice. If only my apartment had that vibe...
Great use of colors and bringing different pieces together. Awesome city apartment! Especially with a little kid. And I love the large scale photo. Very nice touch.
Love the colors! Would love to know how they refinished some of that furniture...
I too love the colors, bold yet warm and inviting. I'm glad you guys make good use of street finds.
I love the green lamp, and the colors on the bookshelf add to the variety of colors in the room. Well done.
I like the green accents throughout each room. Great fabric choices. Would love a tutorial on her reupholestering.
LOVE this.
Aah, we used to live in East Cambridge. You've got a great home, and it's making me miss that neighborhood!
I love the colors in this apartment and the organization in small places. Looks like a great place!
love the colors, use of space and reupholstered chairs!
I WANT HER TO REDESIGN MY HOUSE!!!! Really, it's amazing what she's doing with the place. I want a chair like that -- how do I do the reupholstering?
DIY and on a budget? You wouldn't know it by looking at their apt! I need her to give my small Cambridge apartment a little therapy, ASAP.
I'm impressed with your use of color and how well it all blends together. It is bright and happy, comfortable and homey yet super good looking.
Cheerful and stylish without being overwrought. Would love this kind of cool-warm balance in my place.
i'd love to see a full house tour!
I would also love to see the full house tour. I just LOVE the red wall in the kitchen. Gives me ideas for my own place. Lovely and bright. Great light in this place.
