Yes, it is a 5 x 6 room without any barriers or curbs. It did required a shower pan under the entire floor and a precise pitched to the drain. My tiler, Rob Mara, (www.thegroutandtileguy.com), who was great by the way, also installed the pan & carefully did all of the waterproofing.

Budget was an issue, but being an interior stylist, I knew where to look for bargains on products that would last. The Toto toilet was $279 new on Ebay. The Duravit Sink was $309 on Homeclick. The Broan bathroom cabinet was $182 from Kitchen source. The Cram Cream towel is from Loom on seventh ave. in Park Slope. The subway and the pennies are from Bella Tile in the East Village.

I realize that the open shelving might not make sense out of context. I like mixing it up to prevent things from getting to sterile and it works with the mix of modern and eclectic going on in the rest of the house.

What model is that shower unit Ive been looking for that one for AGES!

The shower unit & faucet are from Justime, a Taiwanese company that I discovered at The Kitchen & Bath show a couple of years ago. They have modern, European-style bath and kitchen faucets for $25 to $150. They sell to the trade, but I am not sure if they sell to individuals. Check them out online @justime.com.tw.

I think the bathroom is striking. The light over the mirror is a great counterpoint to all the bright colors and hard lines. I like it a lot.

I have to say I am COMPLETELY IN LOVE with this whole bathroom, every aspect of it, every single aspect. It is perfect and fabulous and the red is fantastic and original.

That sink! Oooooh. I am going to have dreams about that sink. Well done! I wish you could come style my place, but I live in Minneapolis. I have a teeny bathroom I am going to remodel (soon, soon) and I am totally inspired. I was thinking of doing a shower room in bright yellow.

supershy... I hate to say it, but you should know. YES, people here are often that harsh, and sometimes worse. Yeah, other people will call them out, but AT commenters are pretty well known as a tough crowd. So if you are feeling vulnerable, I seriously would NOT post photos... and if you do post, make sure personal stuff like clothes, lotion, etc., isn't super prominent in the picture as people are very likely to engage in personal attacks. =(

That said, AT does have nice commenters who give good advice, so it's worth it to do in a cautious way!

The bathroom is lovely... I looove bright bathrooms. The shelves aren't quite my thing, but I can see why a touch of wood would be desired in such a slick environment. Maybe eventually the boards could be replaced with teak or something that will weather to a nice gray? I think some shiny lacquer (or plastis is probably better in the moisture) would help corral the soaps, etc., out of sight... or you could increase that milk glass collection, although the containers are only useful for small stuff usually. Or even just a sliding glass door over the area, as it's pretty close to the toilet. But anyway, great job, I'm jealous (we have a super-busy-granite rental bathroom... with no shelving... sigh)!

And dewi... that was seriously uncalled-for.

a pigsty? I don't see how folded linens, toiletries, and miscellaneous small things in matching white, stackable boxes is a pigsty. There are hardly any toiletries even in there and it's for 4 people!

I love the idea of a shower room and the Subway tile is really nice! I would have never thought of that much red in a bathroom and I like the pure white porcelin of the sink and some of the accessories.

Supershy-- people can DEFINITELY get nasty on AT but most people are positive. If you're prepared for a couple nasty comments go for it, otherwise, watch out!

I have the same Duravit sink -- as of yet uninstalled.

I'm having problems finding under-sink supply lines that are 'clean' and 'contemporary' polished chrome. I have nice-looking h and c-water stops --it's the supply line that is troublesome.

Any insights as what I should be spec'ing? ... most of what I've seen is the crimped/ribbed/flexible stuff.

Aw -- don't gang up on dewi. Just someone that doesn't express themselves well. I, too like a clean look but what are you going to do? It's a small bathroom shared by four people. Besides, the "stuff" breaks up the all red room.

I'm a sloppy showerer and would get everything wet if it weren't in a cupboard -- including poor Lucy!

P. S. For some reason my cats love to come in the bathroom when I shower! (??)

I really like the tile on all the surfaces, all you have to do to clean the place is turn the shower hose thingy on!

Brave on the red. But great looking. I could not have red because I put my make-up on in my bathroom and I would be walking out really yellow trying to get the red tone out of my skin. It would be okay for me to color my hair in though, it's red so if I dripple dye, it won't matter.

I got my brasswear from justime.com.tw, but they are a Taiwanese company, so it wouldn't be worth it to order just risers/supply tubes from them. I know that homeclick.com has a good supply of flexible & fixed risers in a variety of finishes.

I dig the subway and penny tiles, and kudos for choosing an unusual color for them! I personally would've put a door or curtain to protect the shelves from view and from water, but that's just me.

What a gorgeous shade of red! I love this bathroom. And most of the items on your shelves are so whimsical and color-coordinated that they do a great job of breaking up the space while still being functional. Also, the black and white photos are very striking hanging against the red subway tile. LOVE IT!

anyway, to avoid any shower doors that take up space in the bathroom we wanted to do this. we have seen a bunch of european bathrooms like this. it really saves so much space.

I love wet rooms, and the subway tile is fab. Three things bother me. That's the open shelves, the rabbit on the toilet, and pennies on the floor. I'm not sure I could walk barefoot there. But I applaud your creativity!

Shower rooms are common in Korea, where I live, but I wouldn't exactly call them popular. I find them pretty inconvenient and water gets everywhere. You need to keep rubber slippers in there for when you go in just to use the toilet or sink.

I do like the open look, but a shower pan and partial glass wall would be minimalist and still contain the water.

Red is fantastic. I love the room. Nice work.

I love the color of the tiles, it's a gorgeous red (I'm picky about reds) but having that many tiles all of one bright color in such a small room feels overwhelming to me. But then I'm only seeing rather tight photographs, the bath itself might have a different feel to it.

And I agree with Mansard Roof--I've used shower rooms in the Middle East, and everything gets wet. If it's your only bathroom, using the toilet after someone's showered isn't very pleasant.
