Name: Marie
Location: Memphis
Marie sent us an email with some shots of her colorful apartment - just the sunshine we needed in the middle of January! She says, I live in Midtown Place Apartments in Memphis TN and I have acquired an interest for interior decoration...
I am in undergraduate school at Memphis College of Art and am majoring in Illustration. Apartment Therapy is a site I visit on a daily basis for inspiration and tips so I've hoped that I could contribute to that with images of my apartment. Enjoy!
Thanks, Marie!
We've had amazing response to our Apartment Therapy House Tour Submission Form that we launched last month. While we will work with homeowners of our favorite homes to feature full tours, we will also share the best as House Calls — short, quick tours of readers' homes. Submit your home here.

Love the colors in this one!
I live on Mud Island and I'm totally jealous of your wood floors!
I love the turquoise and yellow combination! Great colors.
I need more yellow in my world! Thanks for sharing your color combos.
I wonder how it would look to introduce yellow into our light blue/gray/purple/white bedroom. We don't have any aqua to make it pop like you do, though.
LOVE the bedroom. My house has quite a bit of yellow and aqua running around, and this is just gorgeous. I love the architectural details too!
sweet! this house call is better than some tours recently. Very nice.
What color paint are those?
PLEASE!
Love the yellow bedding & the (Ikat?) rug. totally inspired & lovely space. so jealous.
The coffee table is THE best!
Love the rug in the bedroom, it compliments the sofa and coffee table perfectly. Where is it from?
I like the pristine and bright color that you've used. thanks for sharing.

The bedroom is sooo charming. House tour please!
Looooove the bedroom!
The colors in the bedroom are gorgeous! Would love to see more of your home.
Love your place, having yellow around is important to me as it helps lift my spirits when needed and your place is definitely pleasing to the eyes.
Am curious about the coffee table, as it looks to be one of a kind.
Great job, thanks for sharing!
The coffee table is awesome and I adore all the yellow and blue combinations!
your home is charming!
love the different yellow fabrics you used to pull the room together! great job =)
REALLY cute! I love all of your colors
Thank you so much everyone!! Here's some answers to questions about my apartment:
1. The rug in the living room is from World Market.
2. It has been a while since I looked at my paint colors, but I usually use Behr paint, and the bedroom color was called "dolphin lagoon."
3. Yellow is a great accent color, and my favorite color... I think it would work well if placed strategically in almost any room.
4. I constructed the coffee table with a found piece of glass and inexpensive pine from Home Depot!
you have a beautiful home - - it gives me a light and happy feeling.
It's a neat and happy place. Thanks for sharing. We'd like a house tour now!
That cocktail table you made is heaven. Like a lake amidst the alps.
I love your yellow accents! It looks so cheerful. I used to live in Memphis, I miss those amazing Midtown homes. And I miss coffee at Otherlands.
That bedroom is adorable!
Excellent!!
oooohhhh... happiness and sunshine in a few pictures!!! love it!!
Love your bedroom!
It's apparent you put thought into the room: choosing colors, finding accents in those colors, and keeping it all unified.
Beautiful. I wonder how many of us will now add some yellow to our rooms after seeing your photos?!
Thank you! I think it would be great if you wanted to use yellow- you can't go wrong if you use a color wheel to start referencing bold color combinations. For example, I used contrasting tertiary colors for the bedroom and living room walls.
-Yes, I love Otherlands coffee, and the local musicians who play there are great. However, my favorite part about Midtown is the antique stores!
This is adorable!
I love the yellow! The color combo is really warm & cheery.
I absolutely adore your bed and I'm curious, is that an umbrella inside your rainboots? If it is, where did you get it?
Thanks! Yes, its an umbrella...and I can't remember where I picked it up, but I've seen them in CVS stores from time to time. They come in all different colors.
fabulous, thanks for shareing.
where did you get the futon in the living room? it's just what i am looking for. Thanks
Who is the artist on the works above your couch in the living room? Love them! Beautiful home :)
The futon was from Target.com, although I wouldn't recommend purchasing that particular one.
At one point its legs broke and I had to take it to our school's metal shop to get them welded back on!
The paintings are by my friend Qaaim Goodwin- he's also a student at Memphis College of Art.
Your bed has definitely inspired me to get a headboard and footboard.
Where did you get your bed?
What would you call its style?
Such a happy place!
BTW, I saw the information on the Bedroom paint, but what is the name/number of the yellow paint? - Thank you.
I got the bed at a local antique store...it was originally wood tone with a dark finish, so I painted it white. Its a spindle bed..of sorts. Go antiquing, you might find the best deal on one if you negotiate the price.
The yellow paint in the living room is actually a bright lime color, its just the lighting that makes it appear less saturated than it is. I picked the brightest lime Behr offers (Grape Green/ 400B-5) and then mixed some gloss white in to get the variations of intensity.
I love your whole apartment. It is so colorful and fun. Can you tell me where you got the little semi-circle desk you have your sewing machine on?
Thanks- the little desk is from Target. You might want to try Target.com as well, because they have several pieces of furniture that are made in that particular style.
I love your apartment Marie!
Wow! Clean, airy and warm! great colors - thanks for the info re them. You have a great eye!
Here's a link to more recent pictures of the apartment.

This place is constantly evolving...it will forever be a work in progress!
Thanks for additional photos (link to facebook)!
Gorgeous, Marie! Can you please let us know where you got your bedding? Thanks for sharing!
What a happy looking place! Fresh and cohesive space thoughout...thanks for inviting us to your home!
I love her adventurous use of colors, expecially on the walls. Who ever thought of using two lime greens one for molding. LOVE IT.
Thanks everyone for the feedback!
-The bedding was a splurge...I ordered it off Pottery Barn. I'm pretty sure that print has been discontinued, but here's the link:

While yellow is not my favorite color, this is really wonderful!!!
Really nice combinations too.
Very nice!
Love the bedroom...wish it was mine- have a white bed side table like yours - just alittle bigger. Bought it off craigslist- they called it a wobble table- does yours wobble? Tried to tighten it like the previous owners said but- still the same.
I love it so have no intention of getting rid of it- wobble or not.
Love the colors!
Where did you get your wellies/rain boots? Too cute
Hi- Yes, my table wobbles too! I guess its just a design flaw, but I still love the details on it. I found mine at an antique store, and refinished it with antique white.
The rain boots are from Shoe-Nami...I've only seen this store in Memphis, but here's the site for the brand name:

Yes, adorable!
This room is so cheery and sweet! Who wants some lemonade?
Thanks for letting me Post a Comment,

I recently moved, and I love my new place, but have found my retro yellow-tiled bathroom difficult to work with.
Your use of yellow is so fresh and stylish! I'm definitely inspired to make my yellow bathroom work for me!
I'm also happy to see TN represented! Great work!
Thanks! I know how you feel with the retro bathroom, and you can definitely make it work...try anything to contrast within the range of violet-gray to bright turquoise accents. Contrasting colors will brighten the space and draw more attention to both colors instead of just the yellow that you're working with.
Thanks for the info. about your table wobbles also. Mine was already painted white when I bought it- $30.00 I thought was a great deal. Take care.
Seriously good eye for color; I predict a big career in illustration for you! (Or just switch over to interior design… ).
Very refreshing - keep having fun!
